Hi All,
Thanks to you who are interested in paricipating in this healing event. I have been sent a letter to forward to you:
Dear Prospective Volunteer:
We are very happy that you would like be a part of SPARK in the Park 2003. Last year we had a very successful event, working on nearly 650 people in just four days. This year, we would like to build upon that achievement to reach out to even more New Yorkers. Below you will find general volunteer information regarding this year’s event.
SPARK (Spirited Action Release and Kindness) is a New York-based organization consisting of holistic practitioners and volunteers from the New York and around the country, coming together to provide free energy-based therapeutic services and licensed one-on-one counseling to the New York public. Founded in June 2002, our goal is to help release the stress and fear arising from the events of September 11th. www.sparkinthepark.org
September Space is the umbrella organization for SPARK, and is providing the infrastructure for SPARK in the Park to take place. September Space, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, is a community center based on the volunteer spirit that swept New York City in the days following the events at the World Trade Center. Founded by volunteers who served during the World Trade Center relief effort, September Space provides an ongoing social and emotional support network for volunteers and others affected by September 11th. September Space has collaborative relationships and alternative programs that offer combined services to build resiliency, increase skills, and promote wellness.

Locations and Scheduling
SPARK in the Park will take place September 9-13, 2003 from 10am to 10pm in three Manhattan parks per day. The Parks Department will issue permits toward the latter half of August after assessing the needs of City Hall for that week (this helps to avoid potential problems such as putting the healers next to a city-sponsored rock concert). We have currently applied for permits in Battery Park, Central Park and Washington Square Park. Once we have received the exact locations, we will be sending out welcome packages with more detailed logistical information.
Scheduling is flexible, and for those who cannot attend for a full day, we have divided the schedule into 4, 4.5 and 5-hour blocks for practitioners and 4, 4.5 and 6.5-hour blocks for general volunteers, as listed below. Generally, energy-work sessions will be scheduled in 30-minute blocks, with 20 minutes for treatment and 10 minutes for rest. Counseling sessions will be handled on an individual basis.
Scheduling for Practitioners: 9:30am* – 2:30pm
2:00pm – 6:30pm
6:00pm – 10:30pm
*Each morning, a group meditation will be held at 9:35am at the event sites where we will energetically link the locations. All are welcome to attend.
Scheduling for General Volunteers 9:00am – 3:30pm
3:00pm – 7:00pm
6:30pm – 11:00pm
Site Supervisors will be present to manage any scheduling conflicts or modifications that may arise.
Massage Tables and Chairs
Practitioners, please let us know if you can bring your own table, chair, stool, etc., or if you will need one provided for you. If you have equipment but do not want to carry it around, it can be stored in September Space’s site overnight and then picked up and dropped off for you each morning prior to the event.
Rain
In case of rain, we plan to meet at September Space’s site (520 8th Ave, 11th Fl) and work indoors. Rain options may expand as demand for practitioners from other NYC groups increases.
A volunteer orientation will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, August 27th at
September Space, 520 8th Ave, 11th Fl (enter on 37th St). I look forward to seeing you there.
