Hi everyone

I recently came across this book on Amazon.

Reiki: The Ultimate Guide - Learn Sacred Symbols and Attunements plus Reiki Secrets You Should Know By Steve Murray

It sounds like it could be pretty interesting, especailly has I am due to got for the Master Attunement in September. Has anyone read or heard of this book?

I tried my local book shop and they can't get hold of it for at least a month another shop wants £20 upfront before they will ship it from the States. I think if it was a good book, I would get it from Amazon has it is a lot cheaper, but I would like to hear of peoples views on it it first.

Hi everyone

Just wanted to let you know about this book. I am half way through it now and I have got to say it is one of the best books I have read.

I am hoping to have the Reiki Master Attunement in September, a few months ago I was asking around on the Reiki Forums if anyone had a master manual they could sell to me, so I knew what to expect. No one could help me. Well this book was exactly what I was looking for. It goes into step-by-step instructions on how to do the attunements at all levels. I would say this book is a must have for all (new) Reiki Masters and for all Reiki Practitioners that are looking to do their Master attunement.

It really is a godsend, I can't imagine any Manual from my Reiki master could match with this helpful guide.

Hello Aura, Namaste ...

I had sight of this book this week, and I have to admit I find it quite worrying that it is on the market.

I am sure, that since you are taking your Master Attunement in September, the book will be helpful to you.

But I am equally concerned about people picking the book up, breezing through it, thinking that they now know it all, and venture forth as Reiki Healers, or even worse Reiki teachers, without having even met a Reiki teacher.

Also as a for instance, I quote from the book:
"What happens after a 1st level attunement.
1) You are now a Reiki Healer......"

Really? This book is by the guy who does the dvd attunements, and if somebody watches the dvd, reads the book, and thinks that is it, then Reiki is in trouble.

Sorry to be a kill-joy Aura. And regarding your last line of your posting "I can`t imagine any Manual from my Reiki master could match with this helpful guide." I would certainly hope that your Master`s Manual is fully comprehensive, and more importantly, that you are able to ask questions, and have individual attention on anything that you may be unsure of, plus ongoing support. You dont get that from a book.

I wish you joy on your Reiki path, and every blessing for your Masters attunement in September.

Love and light

Otoharo!

philanty, I am so glad you have said all this. Ms. Furumoto recommended to us when I was an apprentice for a year before becoming a master, that it would be best not to read anything. If we had to read, then read our own journals. I agree.

Finality, namaste, ...

If you read a book like this, there are bound to be differences in the way your Master teaches, and then ... you have to unlearn what you read before you relearn what you are taught ... to my mind it is easier to start with a blank canvas.

Hi everyone

I don't plan on learning from this book, I only plan on referring to it once I have my master attunement. I agree on the blank canvas, but I don't believe it hurts to read about something before getting it.

So, I have to teach the way my master teaches me....is that what you are saying, what if after the atunement, I prefer to teach the way the book says, will I not be able to switch?

Aura, We have been talking about the big shift and vibrations on other boards. I would like to refer you to what I have said today on the reiki board and the anything but reiki board. What you are saying, that you plan to go in with a blank mind while you have already told us about a book. These are contradictions. Please do not worry about it. Just do it. You will do it your way after all. After you have had your class and your teacher has taught you, you will still be you and you will hear what YOU hear, regardless of what she teaches. Eventually when you are teaching, if you do, you will still be you, having learned your way, you will continue to do things your way. That is life.

I don't agree that one should not read all they can about Reiki. After I took Reiki One, my Reiki master told me to read everything I could get my hands on and, of course, to practice Reiki. I found many books, one being Murray's. I continued taking Reiki, but from another master. This one did NOT want me to read anyone else's work on Reiki. However,I am glad I did because different Masters do Reiki differently. There is a more traditional approach with specific hand positions used every time (my 1st master) and then there is another approach which seems to be more intuitive or psychic (2nd master).

There are also different ways of drawing the symbols. At first this didn't make sense to me until someone explained that the symbols are like the symbols of our alphabet to make words and that there are variations in everyone's handwriting. I may slant to the left, some else to the right. So, slight variations in symbols exists between the masters I studied with and the symbols in the books I have found .... but they are ESSENTIALLY all the same and quite recognizable as such.

I am not a "purest" as some may be. I have never followed the rules stringently. I believe in the pureness of intent only! The symbols are only powerful because we give them power. WE are the power because it is our intent to offer ourself as a channel for divine energy.

I say, READ, READ, READ. Do REIKI and learn other forms of healing, like QuantumTouch or whatever. Meditate, love, and bless your beautiful self.

I have seen this book advertised and not bought it because I feel a bit bothered that he is not respecting the fact that the symbols should be respected by being handed down through Masters. I feel somehow that he is profiting from peoples curiosity about Reiki and the symbols.Does anyone know if he practices Reiki or just makes money from the knowlege he has? Surely that goes against the Reiki principles.
I understand the need for knowledge and myself have masses of books on all things that interest me. Unfortunately in my experience the "manuals" I have received for my Reiki I and II have been pathetic, especially the II. It looks more like the Masters own notes/crib sheet for the course. There is a good case for such a book but with this one for some reason my instinct is to turn my back on it.
Just a personal slant, dont suppose it helps much.
Blessings
Ally
