iam reading this book and find it fascinating. it gives a historical accont. of, course, being a scientist, he dismsses much that is mysical. and i must confess i skipped over a large part of the old testament, because it goes on and on. all things considered,it's avery iformative book.

Most of the old testament is written as metaphors.

finality

some, thogh, is history. one that was not mentioned in this book is a theory of the book of joshua......that, possibly, the day he made the sun stand still is an example of a shift in the earth's magnetic field. same as your "big shift ".

An interesting problem, then, for those who hold that the Bible must be interpretted 'literally'. Such folk would then be trying to live by interpretting a metaphor literally. Does that not make them just one more mile removed from the intent of the writings?

I think a lot of damage has been done by interpreting the Bible literally. How about all those creationists who are trying to block the teaching of evolution?
