Mindfulness in all things

Namaste...

I have been doing the online book study of Eckhart Tolle's "A New EArth" on Oprah's website and came across this suggestion as an exercise in correlation to chapter 9 and found it's message of mindfulness beautifully written.

To me, the depth of the joy in my Reiki work, is the depth to which I can experience it in the present moment.

All Blessings,
Mammabear

"Ask yourself: "Is there joy, ease and lightness in what I am doing?" If there isn't, then time is covering up the present moment, and life is perceived as a burden or a struggle.

If there is no joy, ease or lightness in what you are doing, it does not necessarily mean you need to change what you are doing. It may be sufficient to change the how. "How" is always more important than "what." See if you can give much more attention to the doing than to the result you want to achieve through it.

Give your fullest attention to whatever the moment presents. This implies that you also completely accept what is because you cannot give your full attention to something and resist it at the same time." Eckhart Tolle

MammaBear,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- yes, all stated quite nicely

- I do have to take some exception with: 'How' is always more important than 'what'

- admittedly I expect that Tolle meant 'the what' to be all things compassionate or at least not harmful

>:-}}

- yet, sadly there is much in human behaviors and endeavours that does manifest harm and to which people, very sadly, apply a good deal of misguided minfulness

- so, I've picked my share of nits for today

FirekeeperCoyoteOtter,

Namaste...

Would there ever be joy, ease and lightness in doing something harmful?

Perhaps superficially it may appear that way, but I would suspect while deliberately doing harm, inner conflict of some type would be more likely.

:-))))))

Happy to throw a bone out for Coyote.

:-))))))

As far as Otter? He is just too slippery to catch.

:-))))))

Take care,

Abundant Blessings to you and the clan,

MammaBear,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- so glad to see you at the Cafe >8-}}

- after mindfully sniffing that bone, coyote has to opine about the 'joy of of the sadist and sociopath and psychopath'

- these are, of course, perversions of varying degree yet they abound in our world in more than trifling amounts

- they are the epitomy of the saying that one person's 'suffering' is another's 'joy'

- of course the sadist, sociopath, and psychopath do not have any useful concept of Karma - this, unfortunately leaves them on the wheel of death and rebirth for painfully long aeons - which is also to the pain of those with whom they have contact lifetime after lifetime

- I am sure (or at least hope) that Tolle does not wear rose colored glasses, but one could be mislead on this by some of his declarations

- coyotes are often very much about survival - not optimism about the human condition and its influence on human nature

- this coyote, however, does have at least one optimistic bone in his body (even if it does not always sound that way)

FirekeeperCoyoteBoneChewer,

LOL

Namaste...

Happy to be here... as usual.

:-)

Words like joy, lightness, and ease are of course feeble attempts to describe inner peace...as are any words. They are merely "pointers" as Tolle refers. One cannot speak of it, because as soon as you do, you lose it.

And Tolle is well aware of the sadness of the world. The awareness of his higher consciousness came at a time of his own suicidal thoughts.

He kept saying to himself. "I can't live with myself anymore." over and over and finally a thought occurred to him, "who is the "i" that can't live with myself anymore?"...

Wow... what an epiphany.

At that moment he became aware of both his higher consciousness and his ego.

:-))))))

Sunny but cool here in my neck of the woods. Walking will be chilly today, but a lively step should keep me warm.

Oh, I don't know...

...there's a lot of depth to that reflection in the mirror.

Not to suggest a "fullness" about myself, only pointing out the depth found in all of form.

Ahhh, my Dear MammaBear,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- the reflection in the mirror is no more than a projection of a moment of our 'existence'

>:-}}

- shallow at best

- the rabbit hole?? Illusion (but, admittedly, a source of a bit of fun while we are stuck in Samsara)

My Dearest Delightfully Challenging Firekeeper,

Namaste...

The reflection, as well as the mirror (and that rabbit hole) is form that is a part of the greater formless, no?

Is it not our identification with the form that creates the illusion?

:-)

I'm certainly up for some fun...

My Dearest MammaBear,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- most kind! A joy to know you as well. >:-}}

- and to cross gentle swords from time to time

bagl

- I am not sure why you make a distinction between 'form-ness' and formless-ness (or at least it sounds that way to this sometimes dense coyote)

>:-}}

- one view is that to appreciate the nature of Illusion one must 'see' with a non-dualistic Mind

- it may also be useful to consider that a great part of the process of identification is projection

- as a great degree of projection is an unconscious process, how may one be certain of the nature of that to which one claims to be identifying??

>:-}}

- have a great day and great weekend!

Firekeeper,

Touché mon ami.

:-))))

Always gentle...

:-))))

At least I intend to be, if I don't appear so, please point that out.

Preferably not with that sword.

;-))))

And after all these years, I certainly wouldn't put you in the realm of dense.

:-)

Bringing me to your comment about my distinction between form and formless.

bagl

All I am suggesting is that the mirror and reflection are forms which when looked at in a very conscious way (going down the rabbit hole) takes us to the formless Consciousness.

I hope that brings some clarity.

:-)

Thank you for the well wishes for the weekend. The cubs and I are attending a May Day Celebration on an organic farm near us. It is quite an event.

Take care,

Abundant Blessings,
Mammabear

MammaBear,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- oh yes, always as gentle as possible

>;-}}

- the rabbit hole is a great source of Illusion

>:-}}

- so, you are suggesting a very conscious excursion into Illusion???

- as an aside, among other endeavors, I would put past life regression in that category

bagl

- of course, if one includes perception into a definition of consciousness, and it seems impossible not to do so (perception itself being quite Illusory), then it might be said that we have to draw into question whether conciousness is also Illusory

- Beltane event at an organic farm sounds brilliant

- enjoy!
