Any body read any of the books by Tuesday Lobsang? I read "You Forever" a little while ago I enjoyed it a lot. I am buying "THe 3rd eye" now. I understand that some think he is a fraud. I dont know..... But I liked the first book, it seemed reasonable enough. Your thoughts please...

Hi halaliel
I haven't read any of his stuff. But I do know that many consider him a fruad. He apparently drew alot on theosophical texts to create his stories. That much can be assertained mearly by looking at the titles and chapter titles of some of his books. The little I have heard of the contents of his books holds no resembelance to buddhism which he proports to hold knowledge of. He never travelled to Tibet, never became a Lama. Maybe good works of 'fiction', however he tried to pass them off as more than that.

Dear Halaliel,
"You Forever" is one of the few books I have actually thrown in the trash.

HA HA HA HA goldenisis, it wasnt that bad was it?? I bought his 3rd eye book, it was $6.00.
I think with any of these books you have to use your own brain, if you like it (you like if you dont you dont. I was leary of buying "you foreever" but did anyway as I have a good B.S. detector, a lot of it was stuff that I had heard allready.

Hi H
I first read the 3rd Eye by Lobsang Rampa when I was about 16yrs old. ( I'm 57 now ) I started to read all his books as and when they were published but missed the last four as 'life took me over' ( drink and girls - lol)
Only this week I was told by a book dealer friend of mine that he has got me the four I missed all those years ago. Most of Lobsangs books are sadly out of print at the moment.
Please dont be put off by the rumours and apparent research which is implying he was a phoney. Critics will say he was only the son of a a plumber living in Devon UK. Lobsang never denied his birthright. He maintained in the Third Eye that he was reincarnated into the body of an Englishman in order to spread esoteric law in the West which he did to perfection ( The cinics never mention that) Since all those years ago I have read book after book on esoteric law and never have I read anything that contradicts Lobsangs vast knowledge of this huge subject. Have faith in his writings H, remember it was he who started the world interest in this subject during the 60's, even the Beatles pop group carried it on by visiting the East.

Hi Geoff
The cynics I know of are comparing what lobsang claims and what is in actual fact specifically in the realm of buddhism. Some of the books claim to expound what is buddhist but clearly is not for those that have studied it. It may have many parrelels to western esoterica however. There may be some truths in the books but thats not to say all of it is. I'd say to H to decide if faith alone is enough or would some investigative study into pure sources of buddhism be needed to make a well informed judgement. They are novels, enjoy them for being novels.
my 2 cents :)

Hi Lion
I can go along with your views. I must admit when I originally started to first read Lobsangs books in 1961 it wasn't to enlighten myself on Tibetan Buddhism but I suppose, in hindsight, to enjoy some exciting tales mixed up with teachings that were almost unknown to most people in the West during the 60's. I long ago came to the conclusion that whether Tuesday Lobsang Rampa was a fraud or not he sure lead me on to the path of a life time of Spiritual Study; probably for that personal reason I admit to being bias in his favour. Thanks for providing me with some soul searching thought.
