Sometimes a person who you idealize and love, when you get closer to them, you see all the not so favorable things about them.

It seems that the man who was in love with the Godess was not put off by her not being of stature e.g. "white trash" and that was not a deterent. It seems to me the natural conclusion is that he takes his chances and chooses to follow his love for the Goddess.

The Goddess has to allow herself to be seen, despite not being perfect. She may be trying to protect her image or him from having to see the demons.

It operates on a few levels.
