Hard to know what's "astral" vs. what's "simply" lucid dreaming. My measure is quality of awareness and degree of free will in the dream. The activity of dreaming has many, infinite, layers and purposes. Some might be termed astral voyaging. When in dream state, you travel in the physical world, sense something taking place, then can independently verify your perception, that would be conclusively astral travel. But it's very difficult to stay in the physical plane while in astral body. I have yet to do this, in fact lost interest after learning Reiki.

Maybe this really belongs over in the new book club, but you might try "Journeys Out of the Body", by Robert Munroe if you're interested. Be aware, there are hazards! But it's also fun to push yourself through walls and fly through the "air".

I feel, though, that in general dreamtime is useful no matter what level it's at, and there's much to learn and many wonders to see. Better than the movies~!

Blessings,
Aronaya

I don't know much about astral travel during sleep. I have in the past had two dreams where I am in my room and i decide to float up to the ceiling and i do. it was all very light and calm, very slow too and detailed. Last night I was doing reiki on myself in bed (back of the head mostly) and I 'dreamt' i flew to montreal, almost saw a friend (her blinds were down - she probably was naturally shielding herself - but we did connect and she did know who i was) at one point near the very end i felt a strong dizzying sensation, as though i was falling backwards. I tried to stop this and for a long time i couldn't. finally i began to feel my limbs, my hands and fingers & teeth and body, very thick, and heavy. then i focused and managed to stop my vision from cycling backwards (like losing v-control on the tv). At this point i opened my eyes again. I dont' know if it was travel or dream.
if it was astral travel...cool.
if it was a dream. Also very cool. just thought i'd share.

Otoharo!

I chuckle, ardur, because many in our group shared similar experiences. You can not move your limbs until you return to the body. Give yourself a bit of time.
