I stumbled across this while surfing. This was shared at an International conferrence in Lithuania in 2003.

Dear Donna,

A very interesting article, indeed. And since Reiki has become a spiritual path for many of us, doesn't that put it in the realm of religion?

Roxy,

It well could. And as written in this article from this conferrence if more accept this idea of Reiki being a spiritual path and/or religion to those who practice it then it could and would make practitioners exempt from the governmental laws, taxes and rules and regulations if it were deemed "churchlike" or a "church" or a "religion."
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I am keeping my eye open while I search to see if there is any more current information especially from global conferrences.
I am glad you enjoyed reading it as I did.

Donna,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- for that matter, one might also suggest Reiki be called quasi-spiritual

- but I, of course, would not be the one to do so.

- for myself? Less talk, more Reiki!

Firekeeper,

Wise words, I might add, as usual. Reiki on!

Amen to that.

While I can understand the motivation behind a left-brainer's effort to study, analyze, rationalize, and otherwise dissect Reiki, in my opinion the more one tries to pin Reiki down, assign labels to it, categorize it into something "comfortable", the less one truly understands it.

Celt,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- yeppers!

- for myself? one can nano-sect reiki to one's heart's content (or distress) but once that is done one still has to somehow parcel out all of the junk one has projected onto all those nano-segments

bagl

Otoharo!

Roxy, Coll spent his whole life showing the differentiation between the vibrations of religion and of spirituality. It is not a matter of difference in ideas but of the energy itself. Anything can become a religion in the way it is practiced. It becomes a religion through a preocess of intitutionalization. Spiritual is always separate from religion. A religious person may also be spiritual but it is something else different from the religion that creates the spiritual nature experienced. In other words, spirituality exists despite the religion. I remember when I threw off my religion (and I was very devout), I had more left than the religion could have been. It was like my spirituality was freed from shackles. So we never want Reiki to become anyone's religion. It would be changed.
