I sent the following in response.

***************************

Dear Sir or Madame,

After reading Leon Jaroff's piece titled "Brits
Endorse Flakey Reiki," I have to ask why he did not
examine the scientific studies of reiki and other
energy-healing methods. Really, ignoring evidence is
a most unscientific way to proceed. Before Mr. Jaroff
writes again on this topic, he might wish to educate
himself by looking at the studies. He can begin with
the sources mentioned in the following URLs, from a
website that collects information on energy healing.
This one deals with scientific detection of healers'
energies, and results of a few studies:
http://www.transitiontoparenthood.com/janelle/energy/support....
And this one presents a chart summarizing clinical
and laboratory studies, noting both "positive" and
"negative" results, as well as concerns about some
studies' designs:
http://www.transitiontoparenthood.com/janelle/energy/researc....
If Mr. Jaroff were to examine such sources, then he
would at least have some basis for giving an opinion.

Sincerely,
Bruce Ching

Bruce,

I sent one too. Briefer than yours but also with a link to google scholar info on Reiki.

:-))

I figure if he is going to knock it he should at least do some research.

In response to Jessica's message re. someone who said science has proven that Oriental Medicine doesn't work. Following is a link to the World Health Organization report recognizing a variety of conditions for which acupuncture is useful: http://www.who.int/medicines/library/trm/acupuncture/clinicr... The report can be viewed/downloaded by clicking on the PDF or Word icons at the bottom of the webpage.

A few more-or-less random quotes from the report: "In a randomized controlled trial, blood-pricking acupuncture was compared with conventional medication (allopurinol). The acupuncture group showed greater improvement than the allopurinol group. In addition, a similar reduction of uric acid levels in the blood and urine of both groups was noted (60)" "For traumas such as sprains, acupuncture is not only useful for relieving pain without the risk of drug dependence, but may also hasten recovery by improving local circulation (68–70). Acupuncture analgesia to relieve postoperative pain is well recognized and has been confirmed in controlled studies (71–76)." "Epigastric pain is a common symptom in diseases of the stomach, including peptic ulcer, acute and chronic gastritis, and gastric spasm. Acupuncture provides satisfactory relief of epigastric pain—significantly better than injections of anisodamine or morphine plus atropine, as shown in randomized controlled trials (128, 129). For gastrointestinal spasm, acupuncture is also superior to injections of atropine (130), and for gastrokinetic disturbances, the effectiveness of acupuncture is comparable with that of conventional medicine (domperidone) (131)"

Thanks Bruce,

The people at school will love this article! (I'm not sure if you knew that I am in school for Oriental Medicine and Asian Bodywork at the Pacific College or Oriental Medicine). That is how the client and I got to talking about acupuncture. I told her I wanted my acupuncturist to look at a sonogram I had done and she got very offended and said all those things.

At school they tell us that Western Medicine is the best system of EMERGENCY medicine and Eastern Medicine works with cycles and patterns to prevent further disruption of qi and blood---therefor leading to a healthier person. (in a nutshell).

Thanks again for the article,

Jessica

Time should get its facts straight a great many reiki practitioners charge under the NHS in the UK. it is controlled by you having the correct qulifications and standards.
and it is used by the royal family, Charles had reiki before his wedding for stress. 'Time is a puppet to the masters voice'
