A study on the effect of prayer, and other healing modalities, as they pertain to distant healing.

ydnic,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- does not really say anything new.

- besides, from where I sit it is doubtful many reputable scientists will openly (publically) admit to the manner in which "energy" and thought forms interact - even if he or she or they have had personal experience in such matters

- and such matters are not readily amenable to scientific methods as currently practiced in research circles that receive governement funding (or decent private funding)

- sad, but true (except perhaps for one government funded study of the effects of Therapeutic Touch on the recovery of burn patients done at the University Hospital where I work - done a few years back - about three-hundred thousand dollars of funding - not a lot by standards applied to cancer research and drug reserach bit pretty amazing given the topic of study)

- and you might be amzed at the number of religionsly fanatical groups (larger or smaller) that come out to oppose such research - even try to find out where people associated with such research live, etc. I know at least two people associated with the study who had calls repeatedly placed to their offices by a local fundamentalist group called "The Watchmen" asking for personal information, home telephone, etc. The Watchmen even placed a misleading ad in the local newspaper asking anyone who had particiapted in the study to call Dr. XXX for some "follow-up questions"

- this doctor was a real person but had nothing to do with the study and was a member of The Watchmen as it turned out.

Dear Firekeeper,

Do you know who the Watchmen are by any chance? This sort of subterfuge is not that uncommon these days & it bothers me immensely. Its not fear re personal danger as much as fear that we are losing site of truth & willing to be led around by the nose by strutting peacocks. Ooops!! Sorry, soap box shows up!!

peace & joy,
holobon

holobon,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- a few years back at the time to which I refer this group actually was listed in the phonebook (but no address) - no storefront, so to speak - as far as I know just a local melange of ultra-fundamentalists

- actually, it was I who first saw the suspicious ad in the newspaper and I called the RN who was the principle investgator (PI) for the study - I knew her very casually thru the university - and warned her of this ad - she mobilzed her folks to notify research subjects that the ad was bogus.

- at one time I knew the names of a few - given to me by someone who returned the favor and did some 'digging' on them.

- haven't heard much from or about them since their subterfuges were exposed and, to be honest, I haven't checked to see if they still list themselves in the white pages

firekeeper,

namaste.

i find the implications of your story quite disturbing. thanks for your active role of decency in limiting the potential damage in a preposterous and sinister-sounding situation.
