The Light Within

Have you considered these walls that surround me?
Are they all that you know, all you see?
Their blank conformity stares back at you as you watch,
Mirroring your perceptions of me.
Have you ever wondered what lies within?
What riches are buried behind doors?
What inner beauty wants to break out and sing?
Spirit unbound by ceilings and floors?
How can you judge what it’s like from in here?
Of the pain that’s graffitied these walls,
Sense the loneliness pulsing and aching within,
A yearning that rises and falls.
For each is a house of many rooms,
And I have this place of my own.
Look into my eyes – these windows that glimpse
The heart of the space I call home.
I have rooms of compassion, foundations of love,
And corners where healing takes place.
I have a welcoming hearth where divinity sparks
And lights the fire that glows in my face.
Yet sometimes the life dies down to bare coals,
And loneliness douses the flame.
Emptiness reverberates in an echo of silence
As I long for the call of my name.
And though storms rage around and fill me with fear,
And the four winds sweep the halls of my mind,
I have an uniqueness, a light, that encourages me still,
And though I stand alone, it inspires me to shine.
But my house is my own, just as I know not yours,
And through these eyes, you can never see.
But give grace, pay respect, for my soul dwells within,
And illuminates all I am and can be.

Wonderful.I have this yoga booklet that says, "Your spiritual journey begins, when you learn to stand alone." My intuition tells me you are a very strong woman and your courage to reveal yourself in your poetry is awesome.

I have found since I have come to this site that my writer's block has really been lifted. I have been doing the artist's way for a second time, but nothing inspires a poet, like another poet.At least, that is what I think. Some of my best song lyrics are inspired by songs I hear.

How true.....I find this place very inspiring too, and like you, I also received great inspiration from members here.

Recently I have turned to creating visual poetry, and find that has been my way of expressing things......but soon I will be llinking my old writing with my new artwork and hopefully the merging will create another way of sharing. Or at least helping me SEE!!!!
Thanks for your words and please share what you have been creating......I always feel guilty if I post a lot of my stuff here and no one else does....kinda feels like I am hogging the board!
Much better for me to read others experiences!
I just like to get some discussion going too.
