Theres a non-traditional hand position called the "psyche" position that can give a very immediate and strong sense of the Reiki energy, which is, itself, intrinsically calming.
Just put one hand vertically on your forhead so that the base of your palm starts mid-way up the forhead, and the tips of your fingers reach to the middle of the top of your head. Then, put your other hand horizontally at the base of your skull. Reiki until done. lol
Also, if you can reach your kidneys, on top of them lie the adrenal glands, and they produce both a calming hormone and an exciting hormone. If you're really anxious, treating them could help (if you can't reach, then don't worry about it, or have a friend treat them for you!)
