I have been asked to do a night of Reiki in a new coffee shop that has opened up. I am concerned that it will be difficult to concentrate and focus. Any hints or advice? I know there are some of you that have worked in noisy or busy environments.
Love and light!

Hi Tracey
I just switch off.Blank it out. If I can.
I think it is about going somewhere in your head(Not the totally right word and I am sure I will be picked up on it LOL), you know that quite place.
I also find that the symbols can flow a bit differently in these situations (Strangest one was standing in a DJ booth whost everyone else was dancing. The master symbol came out different, but the treatment was short and powerful)
Have fun

Try and create your own little sacred space -- sprinkle symbols around the spot you're using. Set up a privacy screen if you can.
For the clients, try having a CD player with headphones (spritz the headphones with essential oils in between client). That will at least help them tune out.
And, make extra sure you're grounded before you start. Especially in a coffee shop!
Have fun!
Blessings,
Aronaya

Otoharo!
Tracey, I have been in these situations. Are you expected to give full treatments or only samples? 15 minutes samples is fairly easy to do and you can shut out the environment for that length of time yourself. For a full length treatment, it would require you to be able to stay in your own space for that length of time. Almost impossible to do. I recommend samples only unless you have a private space and have some control over noise and distractions.

Tracey once I was invited to participate in a week-end psychic retreat where all of us practicioners were in the same large space, though we each were some distance from the others. People just came up to us individually. I had them to sit in front of me, I held their hands, closed my eyes, and said what came to me. As I had reiki at that time, the client felt reiki from my hands. One person was so infatuated by the reiki flow she felt from my hands, she became a client of mine. People had fun, going around and sampling things they were shy about making an appointment with someone for. It was worthwhile at that day and time, about ten years ago.
In fact, it was at this retreat that two reiki practitioners sat for an aura vision shot of them with one being reiki with the other one. The picture was striking. This was chair reiki. The light was dense from above the Practitioners head along her arms, above the clients head (who was also a reiki master) and all through her body. Dense light energy strikingly standing out from other lights around.

I agree with all the other comments on this. I've done 15 minute chair Reiki at a noisy health fair, with people all around, loud announcements of the p.a. system and even rock music playing for the aerobics demonstration. I didn't know how I was going to do Reiki, but I was able to just shut it all out for those short sessions. All who received Reiki that day felt it very powerfully.
I don't know if you are one who believes you have guides, but I did speak to mine and ask for help in mindfulness particularly that day. I didn't have any problems and I am one who tends to drift after a few minutes.

I do have 2 wonderful guides from very different backgrounds. One is firm and guiding while the other is gentle, jovial and has me learn by experience. I am glad to have both male and female energy and be able to seek help from both ends of the spectrum. They are always there when I call. :)

Tracey,
If this is something you are uncomfortable with I would suggest an alternative if possible. How is your focus? How do you hold up on stage? If the Reiki night is during the operating hours you may have to deal with comments and stares of uninvolved customers. Not to mention the background noises. How do the people attending respond under these conditions. Are the peolpe attending newbys or are they seasoned practitioners. If they are newbys they may not get the full affect due to them being distracted. If seasoned they still may get distracted. What about those getting treatments, will they be able to completley let go. Many times there are emotional or spiritual realeases that take place during treatment. Will one feel comfortable enough during treatment to realease when Reiki does it's thing or will it be held in and wasted because one wouldn't want to be embarresed in the coffee shop. One of your responsibilities as the healer is to protect the healee. In order for one to be able to recieve, one has to be completley comfortable. If this is just samples and talk to introduce everyone to Reiki, coffee shop should be adequate, if for full healing treatments I would honor the energy and client and give full attention in protected environment. A lot of coffee shops have extra rooms for private events. If I were having a full Reiki event I would not do it in public, have had too many incidents during treatment to allow exposure of the client on the table. Honor yourself, Honor the energy, Honor the person on the table. The decision is all yours, I am not telling you what to do. The choice has to be yours. Just thought I would give you some other things to consider. Wish you a wonderful Reiki night wherever it is held.
Love and Light

tracey,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I might also recommend that you use sanitary wipes for the head phones between users (if you have audio for recipients)
- as for yourself? some head phones with a bit of music might work also to keep outsome of the din

Hello,
I was asked recently to do 15 min of Reiki in front of a group who did not know much about Reiki.
Even though I could feel there energy it was amazing how my intent took over and I even surprised myself with my ability to concentrate.
If you are grounded with a clear intention perhaps you will surprise yourself too.
Good Luck.

All very good points! There is a small room but not big enough for a table from what I understand. I will be checking the place out before hand, of course. If this is the case I will use a chair and yes, repsect the sanctity of the healer/healee experience.
I would like to be able to spend some time in the shop itself introducing reiki and just do a meet and greet.
Thank you for the input.
Namaste,
Tracey

I must say that I do feel very good about this and that it will show when I am in front of people. I acutally enjoy being in front of people so I am very comfortable with my presence. It was just the noise I had a concern about.

Tracey,
I think that is a wonderful Idea. I wish you well with your Reiki night and think the coffee shops are a good place for demos and introducing others. It is a non threatening location. You have probably already thought about this but you can also if you are interested, the local book stores will sometimes allow you to do demos and seminars. Another good place to get the word out about Reiki. Good luck in all your ventures.

What's to concentrate on? You are giving reiki. You step into that conduit position and you give reiki. It has nothing to do with what else is going on around you, or what you think about it.

Otoharo!
Jahara, Reiki has everything to do with the opposite of what you say, if I am understanding you. before beginning with a client, I spend time BEING reiki (although these days I am pretty much being reiki all the time). I make sure the whole space of my home and especially of the Reiki room are clean and clear of outside energies. By this time, I am totally focused and I remain focused until the last person is gone. Focus I am assuming is what people mean by concentration. That is other thoughts are not there or else I ignore them. Even with the best of us, reiki can only squeak through. How magnificent when we have become a complete conduit, with all else out of the way!

My experience is the opposite of yours. It is not about the surroundings but what you think you are doing. Reiki is nothing about focus or concentration. It is about surrender and unconditional love, no attachment to outcome or thoughts about power or fear. You have no control over anything that happens to anyone else receiving reiki. It is good that you keep your rooms clear, because it puts you in a good place, but you could share reiki on a crowded city bus full of people and it would be the same. When you are focusing YOUR energy you are not doing reiki, but rather something else. The reiki is there, included in what you are doing but you are not receiving it as you share it because of your position. Being a conduit allows the conduit to receive as well as the person 'plugged in' to the conduit. Why do you think the reiki one class is all about giving reiki to self?

Otoharo!
Jahara, we very likely are saying the same thing just using words that do not mean the same to each of us. I am an air person. Air energy is expanded. In order for me to be here now, I must bring my focus here rather than having it expanded way out in all directions at once. It is me that I focus. My thoughts. Then I am available as a conduit for reiki,. Otherwise reiki is also expanded.

Finality,
I don't think we are talking about the same thing. You are talking about control and I am talking about surrender. I am also an air person with a tendancy towards wanting to control everything. When I am in reiki my mind is not. It can go anywhere it wants because it is irrelevant. I do not think about things going on in my life, but I do not get concerned when those thoughts come up. I do not focus my mind on anything, I dismiss it and focus my heart connections. It is difficult to put into words exactly what I do, but it is not mental focus of any kind. It doesn't matter what I think about while I am a reiki conduit. I know everyone says "I am giving reiki" but that is not it. I am providing access to reiki to another person and in the position I put myself, I also receive reiki.
I know that the way you provide access to reiki is perfect for you, except that you could consider changing your mind about "Even with the best of us, reiki can only squeak through". There is no degree (or amounts) of reiki, it just is, like there are no degrees to miracles, they are always miracles. I am sure that a lot of people come to you because of the environment you set up which is important, but they feel the reiki that you share as very strong and helpful or they would not come back.
Namaste'
(Yes, there are degrees to the amount of energy a human instrument can allow to pass through, that always improves with practice, and the less mental activity and or attachment to outcome, the fewer blocks)
