The Reiki Cafe 

Has anyone experinced a rapid heart beat after giving Rieki that lasts awhile?
My coworker and I gave another co owrker reiki for her oncoming cold (sore throat, headache) And afterwards my heart was going on triple time and so was other other reiki practioners. I felt like I drank a quad latte in 5 mins..

- tachycardia can be a sign of increased adreneline - which can be stimulated any number of ways - anxiety and fear being a couple - or exhilaration - being 'pumped up', etc

- chemicals can also induce tachycardia - caffeine, pseudephedrine, etc, etc

- some situational tachycardia is OK, even expected, as long as the heart returns to resting reasonably quickly - people with poor cardiovascular conditioning may find that it takes longer for the heart rate to subside after exertion, etc. Typically this more likely with the overweight and obese but not necessarily so.

- can you say anythng else about how you were "feeling" during and after the session? Also, do you have any health issues of your own?

- in case of doubt, persisting tachycardia needs to be checked out by physician

No overweight here. I weigh a mere 105.
I do drink coffee but did not feel this way before giving reiki to this person neither did the other practioner.
both of us were sweating afterwards and hearts racing. i was wondering if we took on something from the person we were treating. i protected myself before starting.
The fast heartbeat thing lasted about 15 to 20 mins. As i said it felt like I drank a 4 shot latte in about five minutes. i would compare it to anxiety attack. That is the only way to explain the feeling. It has never happened before. The person we were giving reiki to said afterwards that she felt a electrical buzzing in her face/jaw area the whole time we were treating her.So maybe it was a pumped up adrenal rush?

I had that happen once. I was doing a session on a woman with lupus. She had so many "hot spots" that I literally didn't know where to put my hands first. Finally my hands fell on her right shoulder and just stuck there. Within a few seconds I started to sweat and my heart rate sped up. I quickly regretted wearing sweats! I think she was pulling so much energy through me and I wasn't used to the sudden demand. I had never had so much energy pulled through me before. The sweating hasn't happened since, even with a similarly very ill client.

Did you say she was coming down with a cold? Her immune system was probably on overdrive and looking for all the help it could get, so maybe that's why it pulled in a lot of energy.

I have vague recollections of a similar topic being discussed at my level 2 attunement.

From what i recall our Reiki Master mentioned that sometimes a big increase in the amount of Reiki flowing through you can cause your heart to speed up. Sorry I can't recall any other details.

I have no experiance of this myself.

Angelhair, I will only add one thing. Perhaps it is well not to take in caffeign before being reiki with anyone.

Angelhair, I have mulled this over a while and will add some of the experience we've had over time. If the person receiving reiki is living toward the idea of choosing to leave the body and to return at will, they are living toward life. If on the otherhand, a person is living toward the time, they die off, then they are said to be living toward death. This makes a big difference in our energy. This living to die gives off coldness to those channeling the reiki.
