The Reiki Cafe 

Hi I am new to reiki and took the first degree in March. I have been self healing nearly every day but doubts stil creep into my mind that there is no energy there. I can't honestly say that I feel much in my hands and although I always feel happier after treating myself I couldn't say why. Is it normal to feel like this and is there anything I can do to banish this self doubt.

One of the hardest things to go through at level one is not being sure of the energy. There have been many posts in the past from practitioners who just dont feel much & I hope that they will respond to you.
Did you know much about Reiki or energy work before you took level one class? Did you have any expectations re what it would be like? It is possible to block the physical sensations & if one is nervous about it all or has doubts it is quite possible to dampen or block sensation. If one is exposed to practitioners who are going on & on about what they feel or sense in a big way, etc it can be a bit discouraging if you dont have the same experience. However, I have had wonderfull sessions from a RM who had lost touch with his sensations & although he no longer felt much giving a treatment there were days it was like being in a sauna on the receiving end. It is not necessary to "feel" energy to have the energy flow during Reiki.
It might be helpfull to have a full treatment from an experienced practitioner. Just relax & allow yourself to be open & enjoy without any expectation, see what happens.
Can you talk with the person who attuned you for guidance?

Mr. and I are both RMTs. Our experiences of the energy are different. Mr says he rarely ever feels the energy, especially when treating himself. Those on receiving end of his treatments report powerful healing experiences. I always feel the energy.......all I have to do is think about Reiki......like now, and I feel the waves of energy. Each person is different and therefore each will experience in their own way. Maybe giving Reiki to someone else will help ease your doubts.

Don't feel alone, Unsure. I am an RM and I do not feel anything. It has always been that way, even during my attunements. Level I is hard because I think alot of us have preconceived ideas of how it is going to feel, be, etc. I was truly disappointed after my 1st attunements. But as I continued to do Reiki, even with all of the doubts, I started to notice my hands getting hot or sometimes little feathery feelings on the top of my hands. After I received my Master attunements, that all stopped. But I do know that Reiki is working because my clients tell me so!

So keep practicing and know that you are not alone with the doubts!

unsure, just continue what you are doing. Doubts will fall away with time. The experience of reiki is more than a feeling.

It's tough to be travelling this road to enlightment by yourself. Get together on the phone or in person with fellow Reikians to discuss Reiki books and the like as well as try to get together a couple times a month to do healings on each other. It's amazing how your sensitivity will grow when working on others as well as giving you confirmation of the Reiki energies flowing through you.
