Dear Reikinovice,
Why does it matter if a certain celebrity is into Reiki or not? Does that validate it?
I recall someone talking about Jennifer Aniston having tried Reiki but I do not know if that is fact or not & you could probably check on her web site.

peace & joy,

reikinovice,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- I do not know, off the top of my head, any celebrities who are reiki practitioners - but then some celebrities are actually fairly private about spiritual matters (as opposed to career publicity)

>:-}}

- I do not know of any celebrities who practice massage either but I expect there may be some who have training.

- I suspect that many celebrities get massages, not give them; get manicures, not give them; perhaps get Reiki but not 'do Reiki'

- sorry I have nothing more useful for your article.

"Why does it matter if a certain celebrity is into Reiki or not? Does that validate it? " Interesting question, and it also applies to conditions like breast cancer or prostate cancer -- does the fact that a celebrity has it make it any more deadly than it was before? No, of course not. BUT it does tend to raise the general public's interest and awareness about the condition.

reikinovice,

I seem to recall that the model who was in SE Asia during the tsunami said she did energy work on herself afterwards in an interview on Larry King?

Sorry, can't remember her name. Also am not absolutely positive it was Larry King but you might check into it.

I read recently that Mel Gibson has reiki treatments. Never sure with the press what is fact or fiction though. To be honest I have never seen a good representation of reiki healing by the TV/media anyway, and more importantly, I read recently that one day the rich and famous will loose their material power over the masses, when everybody truly wakes up to who they really are and realizes their own power.

- one view is that if (a big if) and when (not at all certain) 'everyone wakes up' there will be no need for 'power'

Greetings,
I had an energy balancing teacher (not specifically Reiki teacher) who said Michael Jordan once walked into one of her classes in California, which was a thrill for her. I hope I got his name right. (famous basketball player)

I think I read in a newspaper that Prince Charles and his new wife Camilla had tried Reiki just before their marriage. Can't remember what they thought of it though.

Her name was Petra Nemcova (sp.?), and yes she was on Larry King. She talked about ULE, and did not use the word "Reiki".

The wave(s) had deposited her high in a tree, broke her pelvis in eight places, and she hung in the tree for hours waiting for rescue. One of the lucky ones. She attributed her survival in large part to her work with ULE.

I personally believe the time is coming soon when Reiki will be a household word like yoga is now. Just look at how it spreads, and how many are enthused enough to learn how to teach others.

In the past year or two, here are some examples of Reiki or healing hands in general coming into public awareness:
Local:
- article in the local (Portland, Maine) daily paper which was mostly accurate
- yours truly in a half-hour college radio interview
- my friend Rahel interviewing on the same show a year later, talking about Reiki for Peace in Israel
- another local Reiki Master being interviewed on local TV, the evening news health spot (I didn't see this one, heard about it after the fact)
- the biggest local hospital started a Reiki volunteer program

National/Hollywood:
- in the movie Elektra, Jennifer Garner's sensei gives her a hands-on healing that revives her from cardiac arrest
- in an episode of Charmed, one character beams white light from his hands to resurrect two others from the dead (OK, that's Hollywood)
- The movie The Healer, starring Lothaire Bluteau (loses his powers when he has an affair, very un-Reiki-like!)

So, my prediction: it won't be long before you see more celebrities talking about Reiki more openly. It does matter in one way: each one of you who has been doing Reiki, don't be surprised if you start getting many more inquiries from people who want to try it or learn it. There will be lots of joyful work to do!

Blessings,
Aronaya
