Have any reiki master /teachers out there have any views on giving the power symbol to level one students, not for empowerment, but for protection and cleansing?

rayskem,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- it seems there is not always unanimity as to which is the "power symbol".
- to which one do you refer?

rayskem,
Hi.
Anyone can go to the internet and find the symbols. Many 'believe' that 'knowing' the symbol means they can use the symbol.
I would say that teaching the proper aspects and use of the CKR in Level One might be a useful prophelactic against much mis-information and short-cut seeking.
Cheers,
RC

Hey Rayskem,
How bout using the angel wings symbol for protection?
Its a great one and its easy to envision. Just imagine you have big beautiful white wings ( which you do by the way) and wrap them around yourself. This protects against negative energy and will pull in your energy to help ground you.
Just repeat the name angel wings several times and focus your energy( thought) on speaking the symbols name.
One thing about using or receiving too many symbols when you are a newbie is you never really get your feet on the ground for what is in the present. Its important you ground the energy of the first attunement and its important that you respect all the self healing that goes along with the first attunement. Its all about the physical body being realigned with the energy of Reiki.
Thats why I think the Angel Wings symbol is perfect because you will get the focus and the protection perhaps needed at this time. :}
If you have further questions feel free to write.

I would opt for no on that one. Level I is so precious in its own that any additions seem to diminish its uniqueness and power. Reiki is what does the cleansing anyway, not the symbol. Protection? What from? What is all this talk about protection? Where does the fear come from? ego? I would suspect so. If ego can cause one to fear reiki and what reiki does, ego would benefit.

rayskem,
My view is that your concern about "protection" is valid, even if harm coming to a healer seems to be a rare occurrence (at least in my experience). I have had a few healing sessions in which the desire of the receiver to affect a particular outcome has probably caused some out-of-the-ordinary responses in my physical body - some I wasn't comfortable with, but certainly from which I was not at risk of long-term harm.
Likewise, it does no harm to ask one's healing guides for protection from being influenced by lower entities. Not that Reiki itself is the issue. When the Reiki I healer begins to have psychic experiences connected to her/his healing work (past lifes, diagnosis, etc.), then lower entities may (or may not) become an issue. A symbol passed during attunement probably isn't necessary for protection - just the healer's asking the Source of All for protection should be enough.
My understanding is that the CKR is passed during the first attunement anyway. The Reiki I doesn't know the symbol at that time but has it in her/his aura, available at a subconscious level for self-healing and direct healing. That's what I was taught.
Do what feels right to you!

rayskem,
I did a little research and found that the second symbol (SHK) can also be used for purification and protection (according to Diane Stein in "Essential Reiki", 1995). It is placed in the healer's aura (and sometimes the hands) during the first attunement.

Hey Finality,
Its easy to say what is one afraid of, but quite honestly I think it takes alot to cleanse out the old conditioning. Sometimes just knowing doesn't quite get the job done.
I've known I was protected in meditation but the fear was too strong and my concentration was broken.
So, using visualization, or ritual ( calling symbols) is a great way to have your mind accept your safe.
Seems harmless enough. Even a child will eventually give up its training wheels when its confident enough to venture out without them and their feeling happy and open.
Of course love is all there is. But until we have the wisdom to know this deep down to the soul level, were likely to get thrown off many times in transitioning to this place.
People are just where they are. They cannot be anywhere else right? :}
I used to date a guy that got upset with me when I said he had fear of being poor. Classic poverty consiousness at work. He said he didn't want to say it out loud because it gave it power.
I said, if you wont let yourself consiously think about these things when its right there bubbling beneath the surface so you can see the illogical side of it, if you wont even confront that truth you have ingrained, how can you heal it?
Love and Light,
Jahanvi

hi
I do give my level 1's symbols of power...more importantly I show them my understanding...(which by the way grows less and less with each passing minute) of the intention behind the symbols and their practical application specifically in healing (but as you may or may not realize it could be easily transferred to other aspects of ones life)
Also I teach my level 1's that it is a tool and the real power lies within each and every one of us...(and like all tools, it too, with time, may have to be modified or discarded. So don't rely too heavily, don't cling, cultivate greater awareness, and see it for what it is).
be well

Patrick, I do not see the reason for what you are saying. The most important thing about reiki is practicing it on oneself and friends. Symbols just muddy the water. By giving the symbol you are implying that reiki by itself is not powerful. That is cockeyed thinking.

interesting comment ... perhaps I didn't explain very well my meaning. Because from your reply, it sounds like we are in agreement.
I do believe reiki to be the most important thing in healing. The energy itself is what facilitates the healing (although one is mainly responsible for their own healing), and the symbols are merely tools for direction and amplification as the case may be.
And as tools are not the most important part in healing but the energy and intention behind it is what is truly important.
I really believe we are talking about the same thing, although I may not have related it as well as I would have liked. Thank you for the opportunity and the space to clarify.
may you have happiness and it's causes
patrick

Otoharo!
Jahnavi, yes, it takes a lot to rid oneself of allt he old stuff. I have been sharing how it has been with me for many years, finding it, getting to understand and comprehend it, realizing we do not need it any longer, releasing it. All these steps to accomplish. Yet when one looks back on it all, one can see that only love exists. Only love matters at all. Only love is real. Joy, too, of course. Love and JOy make up the real world. While we are in the third dimension, we have opportunity to see both sides to every issue and choose which side we desire for ourselves. We need these experiences because they give us the opportunity to choose. And after we choose, we can choose again and again. that really is what living in third dimension is all about.
