Reiki and Seizures

Hello Everyone,

I've recently made a new friend who experiences seizures 2 to 3 times a day. Her doctors have not been able to figure anything out.

I'm sure reiki would help but I'd like some advice on this.

And I'm also wondering which Chakra is related to seizures?
Maybe this would be a better place to start?

Let love and light guide you today and always,

voodoodoll,

Hi.

Are these petit mal or grand mal seizures? Important difference.

And, there is no eveidence of which I am aware that would lead me to the conclusion that Reiki would surely help (and not do harm).

So, I would not likely do Reiki with someone with seizure and certainly not anywhere near the head (and especially not without permission and consulting the neurologist). It is the brain, afterall, that malfunctions precipitating the seizures. However, if the person is desparate to experiment I would be sure to get a signed and witnessed waiver of liability first.

As for the chakra question? I would start at Root charkra and Second Chakra and see what happens (if you do anything at all). My thinking here is along the lines of cranial -sacral balancing type work. But keep in mind that it is the brain's dysfunction that is the source of the seizures and not likely the Kundalini.

Cheers, (EEGs as needed)

voodoodoll,

Grab a cup of coffee... My best friend of 30 years has had petite mal seizure disorder since she was 12. She is 53 now. She knows I practice Reiki and never really believed in it until recently. A while ago she was put in the hospital for many tests and then put in once again about 2 weeks ago. She was off all of her cocktail medications for these tests. They could not get the seizure's they felt sure they wanted to see on the EEG's. She was down to the last day and no concrete results yet so I mentioned to her about me sending energy and she talked it over with her nurses and her one surgeon. One nurse knew of Reiki and everyone else did not but basically left it up to her. So I sent very gently and of short duration and kept my hands further away from just the back of her head. They got the seizure's they suspected were there so then put her back on the medications once again. In a few days they opened her head to expose the brain to place a grid on the temporal lobe with wires attached and coming out of the other side of her head. They said the med's were necessary again as they did not want her to seizure during this open procedure. A few days later she was off the med's again as they were now looking in the frontal lob rather than the temporal lobe. No luck once again so she asked me to send again while she was off the med's. Again short treatment, very gently and hands maybe 12 inches away from the back of her head. They got the seizure's from the frontal lobe so once again back on the med's as they moved up her surgery from October/November to just in a few days. She went through 20 hours of brain surgery this last day (9/09) and she had 7 hours of brain surgery the week before. I knew not to send any energy whatsoever. I knew to not send when she was medicated too.

What I learned from this is that there seems to be a possibility that sending energy can bring on seizures.
Personally, I would not think it wise to work on someone you barely know with a seizure disorder that not even the doctors are finding out much about currently. Petite mal's are much harder to diagnose and to treat anyway. I know you want to help but be patient and wait this out.

I would say if the practitioner has seizure disorder then go ahead and practice on yourself and journal what does or does not happen.

My friend, Pat, was in a special unit and was videotaped constantly and was wired and all info was sent to the desk. She even had a call button to push if she felt a seizure coming. So this was a very controlled situation and the staff knew of her wants and wishes.

She is recovering quite nicely except for some temporal lobe swelling. She was out of ICU in less than one day instead of being in there 5 days. They are amazed at her recovery after so many hours of brain surgery. She has the most positive attitude and was so ready to have this done in the hopes she will improve and regain some of her memory. The memory was not operated on so she will have to relearn many things and force the nerve endings to fire and work. So far no report of any seizures since she had the last surgery about two weeks ago. She must use a walker for balance and to prevent falling and she must have someone there 24/7 for any move she makes. Falling down would really do some major damage. I am going to visit with her twice a week and am in awe of her attitude and recovery process.

It took many decades and many different teams of doctors and testings and medications before she finally got to this point of having brain surgery. Her seizures were not being controlled and she has fallen many times and nearly bit her tongue and lips off on several occasions.

She is hopeful.

First do no harm. When someone is in the meantime sometimes it is best to let things alone.

When the time might be right you will all know if Reiki can help her situation. Be patient, supportive and understanding. I wish your new friend the best of luck.

Donna

Hi Voodoo.
There is a wealth of infomation on the interent about Reiki and Epilepsy. This is case thou where diagnosos should be made first.
If you do treat your freind, there are several precautions that should be taken. Like having someone where there who knows what to do in the case of a seizure. Not having them on a couch where they may fall off and hurt themselves etc.

I would also advise to get your freind to talk to her Doctors before you start with Reiki about Reiki.

Commonsense should over rule the heart here.
I would also say that just because you practice Reiki, you don't have to use it.

Thank You All,

This is such a touchy disease. I will do a lot more learning about it. My friend would like to receive reiki but I am very concerned as to how it might effect her.

They Say "THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON" ...

I WONDER WHAT THE REASON FOR SEIZURES IS ?

Hi reikicurmudgen,

I just got a reply from my girlfriend.

She said "I do not know if they are grand or petit but they are in the lower lobe of my temporal part of my brain. I believe that is why they are doing these tests and I have a suspicion they are grand-mal. They last for two hours or more but now are lasting everyday on and off."

Otoharo!

Voodoodoll, things do not happen for a reason. Things happen. We may assign a reason to ease our pain. that is all.

voodoodoll,

Hi.

People may be born with a seizure disorder, it may develop after some years, or some seizure disorders are consequences of head injuries, stroke, exposure to neurotoxins, etc, etc. Some seizure disorders last a life time , some seem to 'clear up' after some period of time (usually several years and mostl;y just those that were secondary to some insult to the brain)

These are, of course, non-spiritual explanations.

Some would hold that at the root of all aspects of our 'current life conditions' is our Karma.

;)

Does the knowledge of the karmic connections help? Often it seems not. Yet how we deal with our life's condition will also accrue Karma. So the decision your friend makes about trying Reiki (or not) and how he\she deals with what follows Reiki work will also accrue to he\her Karma.

And, of course, the effects of your decision and actins in the matter will accrue to your Karma.

:)

Good luck.

Cheers,

RC

hi voodooodoll,

Duration doesnt necessarily indicate intensity, which is really the difference between grande and petite mal.
If the seizures are grande mal, i would suggest that you wait until a neurologist has been able to make some sort of determination. A grand mal seizure can be a life threatening occurrance. These seizures are also pretty easily controlled with the correct medication.

Regarding "do things happen for a reason and why are these seizures occurring?" - personally, i feel that its a matter of personal philosophy and world outlook.
Remember that this is for your friend to experience and that she needs to make some determinations of her own.

Finally, i do not feel that reiki would be harmful, i know reiki masters that have epilepsey (controlled with medication)and they channel quite a bit of reiki energy without any side effects as long as they continue on their meds. Still, i would err on the side of caution and wait for a neurologist to make a determination.

One last question, have you ever seen a grand mal seizure and do you really know how to react to them? If not, a little self education is critical and maybe that is what the lesson is for you.
I would also talk to your friend as much as possible to try to understand what she is going through - its a very bizarre and disorienting experience and the more you know/understand the better you will be able to help,
with or without reiki.

reiki all around

hI Voodoodoll,

iN MY first reiki manual back in the 80's, it stated seizures (epilepsy) which seems like the same disorder is sometimes caused by vicious habits which drain the vital energy system of .... nerve minerals. I do not know what vicious habits mean. So I'm glad this subject was brought up. Someone clue me on on this please.
The esoteric psychological relationship is karmic patterns of inwardly contained anger from former lives of violence...- deep seated psycho physical disorder with neurological and nutritional imbalances.
Medical treatment is physician - Nutritionist or holistic physician trained to test for allergies and neurology.
Reiki treatment is full body with additional time on head, throat, heart and adrenals. Chakra (s): All

good luck,

Prosperity
