Hi Everyone,
I started a new board as it will deviate from the Highest Good Topic.
I am so confused. And not only by the "Highest Good" intent. What are we to use as our intent to send Reiki or give Reiki to ourselves?
Just lately the queststion was put to me how do you know Reiki comes from God, can it come from an evil source that is deceiving us. I have been searching everywhere.
In the Bible the closest thing I could come up with is the laying on of hands. But was this Reiki?
I have actually become scared. I do not want to do anything to offend the Lord.

Otoharo!
The Lord, the Holy, does not judge, nor take offence. Otherwise how could we have free choice in our lives?
By intent, to me this means, I keep my mind from wandering while I am being reiki. My intent is on the energy of reiki, watching it, not allowing any interference. If you do not see energy, you feel or know it. Keep your intent on reiki itself, so that you keep your stuff out of it. If you notice a darkness moving in, you hold that reiki energy until the darkness goes away. That is intent, so far as I know and am concerned about.
The energy Jesus used in all his healing was the same as that which we call reiki. You can say this confidently, as they can not prove what they say any more than you can prove what you say and do. Just let the energy speak for itself, as you use it. I was in body during Jesus' day and observed him and what he did.

Uh oh i thought this was a reiki site...please please lets not get confused with Jesus being a healer. He was a political activist who would have been classed in todays society as an anarchist......his healing has been proven as metaphor conclusively and not as healing persae...these stories have been chinese whispered to the pages of scriptute. Jesus was not a healer as we know a healer to be today...this is not supposition it is fact...there is plenty to read on the subject...even relisitic holymen today realise that

That is something you have to work out for yourself really.
What do you believe. The Bible does state that one should seek out spiritual gifts. It also states we are all the sons and daughters of God and that we will do everything Jesus did and more. Furthermore, the Bible states that God has chosen people all over the world not just the hebrews, some of whom do not even know his name. It does not however, say which cultures.
Often times these statements come when something is developed outside of christianity. the Church didn't make it or approve it so obviously it's against God because " they would know." But with the above statement in the Bible then we can see that there are other understandings out there every bit as valid as christianity.
It is also said the only power the Devil has is lies and deceit. Has Reiki helped to improve your life? Or that of others when you share with them? In my case I can answer yes to both, though as others say, the results are not always what we are hoping for or expect. So the fact that these things can and do occurr to me takes them outside the realm of lies and deception. It is also said that Satan can not heal, only God can. So again seeing results would to me illustrate it is not evil or of the Devil.
Then again I'm pagan and have no spiritual conflicts with Reiki whatsoever. so one more time, it's something you have to decide for yourself.

voodoodoll,
Hi.
ULE is simply everywhere. It is neither good nor bad. It simply is. Compassionate and harmful effects derive from the Intentions with which energy is accessed and applied. So, how you use the energy in working with others or yourself will reflect your Intentions and Mindfulness. Effects will generally reflect these intentions but the actual nature of the effects are, of course, not at all predictable.
:)
Your Karma will also be reflected in some ways since it is the many-lived habits we carry with us karmically that also affect what we do in this life. This means there is no pure, free will or free choice. We are constrained by ourselves, really; by our own karma. However we can behave differently but this is not necessarily very easy.
Beliefs do not make things so. If it were so that beliefs made things so, why then do people who believe reiki can cure cancer not 'cure cancer'? Either for themselves or others? Humans are, afterall, masters at self-deception.
If your Intention for reiki practices is compassionate you have little to fear.
Cheers,
RC

Dear Voodoodoll,
As has already been said, you must make these determinations for yourself. What works for one (and one set of beliefs) may not work for another. For myself, I happen to believe that fear is used to control. The fear that energy healing is "evil" or "of the devil" is used to control those who accept that fear and thus keep them within the confines of church doctrine that teaches dependence upon human rules instead of the freedom that comes with a personal relationship with the divine.
I guess it all comes down to how you view God, Source, Spirit. I definitely feel that Reiki is compatible with all forms of religious faith (but does not require that religious component if it is not who you are). Look into what it is that you fear and then within yourself for the answers you seek. And know you have a divine right to heal.
Oh...and as for Jesus...I do believe he was a healer, a great spiritual master. Was he also a political activist? Undoubtedly!
I wish you all blessings on your journey towards discovering your own truth.

hi there voodoodoll,
never ever fear or think Reiki can offend, or harm anybody! (or 'YOUR'lord..) REIKI is always good...
Reiki DOES NOT come from an 'evil' source, have you EVER KNOWN IT TO HARM?..
AS REIKI CHANNELS, we are simply harvesting the 'universal life energy', that is in 'every thing',& passing it on...
where I live, here in Australia, there are centers where after having treatment for cancer, you can go & have a free Reiki treatment,( in a room at the hospital) some doctors & nurses use it, so how can this not be GOOD & wonderful?
IMHO, the bible is only a book, a book of mainly fear, with it's main reason for being is to CONTROL the people through fear...& a money making racket! never see a 'poor' church,
but I won't go into that....each to their own...
Reiki is just the one..REIKI.. for the good of all,
please never 'doubt',.... Reiki is only pure LOVE.....
luv to you, Wendy Ann xx

Thank You Thank You Thank You
I did not and could not see how reiki could ever be or be used for evil.
Thank You all for easing my mind on this.
As for the highest and greatest good thing ... Still not clear on why not to use this as my intention. So I'll just use it till I get message to tell me otherwise.
Love and Light to All

Dear Voodoodoll,
How does anyone "know" that something is from God? We could create an international incident trying to work that one out. I dare say that a divine source is always doing the right thing for the right reason at the right time!! :)
Drawing comparisons between Reiki & the miracles of Jesus can rile up the religous folk. ( remember the scene in Frankenstein when the villagers head to the castle in the dark of night carrying flaming torches? )
I have no idea if Reiki meets Divine approval, Im not about to speak for God. But I find it hard to believe that Reiki is a seduction leading to the destruction of our souls. Years ago something similiar was said about rock and roll and Elvis's pelvis. As far as I know, we can keep all the commandments & still Reiki. At least the Reiki I was taught...
Time reveals evil, even evil in disguise. The trick is in keeping our eyes open long enough to see what we prefer not to see.
No harm in sincerely asking God for guidance in regard to your involvement in Reiki.
peace & joy,
holobon

voodoodoll,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- when sending to someone else? Our Intention needs to be simply getting the energy to the person - their highest good is their business - so we need to keep all other intentions to ourselves

The great thing about this forum is the help it can give but the advice is sometimes conflicting as I am sure you have gathered.....
Seeking permission from a recipient to recieve reiki is an example of an old fashned view .....possibly relevant if you feel it to be so but my advice as a forward thinking reiki practitioner is "DO WHAT FEELS RIGHT FOR YOU AND YOU CAN DO NO WRONG....." it is all about the intention you have.
I believe that should one should always intend for the highest good as a bit of insurance ...just my view...do with it what you will

It might strike you as an unwillingness to take responsibility firekeeper, however, without a forward thinking approach we shall forever live in an unenlightened world. How can one do wrong if it be for the highest good.....Q.E.D.
...and! who ever quotes from the bible is certianly not being responsible ........ using ones own references rather and experiences is far more effective at demostrating a point that delving into a mostly fictitous book.
As you can tell I am probably a little more controversial in my views compared to the passive state of most on this forum but my messages are always meant with honest intention and not to offend. My neighbours have never been apathy and weakness and this has stood in me in good stead in my reiki.

You said, in part: "...and! who ever quotes from the bible is certianly not being responsible ........ using ones own references rather and experiences is far more effective at demostrating a point that delving into a mostly fictitous book."
- a few thoughts about this
- as elsewhere, here at The Cafe it is important to know the difference between expressing one's own views on an issue and slamming someone else's. Insulting others is not in the spirit of The Cafe and not really what one would call 'controversial'.
- having said that, I would simply ask: who am I to say what is the highest good? Or, is there even such a thing as 'the highest good'.
>:-}}
- as someone once said, the High Self travels on foot.
>:-}}
- as for one's own experiences? Personal logic, by nature, is rather ego-centric and not infrequently ill-representative of the larger flow of events in the universe.
- as someone once asked? What light does not cast a shadow?
>:-}}
- again, good luck.

Dear Gavstar,
I can see that you are very passionate in your beliefs and that is wonderful. However, I would add that this "fictitious book" that you reference is sacred to many. You may certainly express your opinions, but a spirit of mutual respect is what makes this Cafe a very special oasis in the often murky waters of the internet.
As for using the concept of "highest good" to sidestep the issue of permission...would you be open to energy work done on you, without your consent, because someone else thought it was for your highest good? Personally, I would consider that an assault.
All blessings,
Lesley

Voodoodoll,
Please do not be scared or confused. Reiki is a safe system that is not sent by an "evil source" trying to deceive us. Trust me on that one. I use it in all my spiritual healing work at my church. I have to say that I love Jesus and trust Him as my main spiritual healing guide. I don't think He would let me down or lead me (or you) down the wrong path...
For a reference, check the Diane Stein text "Essential Reiki." Ms. Stein suggests that Dr. Usui believed Reiki to be the system Jesus used as the basis for His healing work. I agree.
Reiki is not well understood by most people, and since it seems to be gaining mainstream awareness, lots of reactions are going to be coming. Not all will be positive.
What's worse is that we have to contend with both the understandable ingorance of the general public AND the suspect ethics of some "practitioners." I've heard some stories lately that really make me shake my head. Things that supposed "Reiki Masters" tell their clients. You know, there are people out there who don't know what the hell they're doing and call themselves "Reiki Masters." Others have something to sell, like a "channeled" variation on Reiki. Please... I'm slow but I'm not stupid...
Always do your best, with the intention to be helpful, and then take care of yourself and have peace of mind on this. You're fine!
Ken

It is already known that history is incorrect. Been known for a few years ta boot.
It is believed by some that this version came from Takata Sensei who was using it as a teaching story. I do not know if that is definitive or not.
However, while her reasoning may be speculated upon, it has still been disproven historically. Even in that version Usui created the system. He had "first contact" with the nergy during his meditation on " the technique Jesus used to heal".It is said the symbols came to him during this great vision.
Back to reality... Usui Sensei came to know the Reiki energy through his meditation. However, he was a tendai buddhist, not a christian monk. This meditation was part of being a tendai monk. My understanding is that everyone in the temple undertook the 21 day fasting/meditation at some point. I have heard it said that it was even undertaken more than once and was not Usui's first( not positive on that). So his meditation had nothing to do with trying to find the healing technique of Jesus.
The symbols were added by his person when he discovered some of his students had difficulty focusing on their own. Aside from the fact that the tendai sect is an esoteric sect, it would appear that Usui had training in working with energy from other sources as well. He developed his system based upon years of practice and continued to make changes to his system as time went on.

Hmmmmm.....this is all very inetresting. Thank goodness that the more forward thinking reiki pratioiners and masters of this world especially those in the UK are aware that it is a lovely thing to pass reiki with our without permission....that is my view, I believe it and cannnot imagine reiki can ever be comapared to an assualt. Sorry that is purely ridculous. The next thing is I shall get struck off here for having forceful views.
Many people may hold "THE BOOK" sacred but that gives no assurance that it is a work of fact when it has been proved by many of the leading theological scholars of the world as a book of metaohor and fiction .Why are poeople on this forum scared of the facts and the truth.....because it goes against the grain? The point is that views can be openly expressed here and I dont want to be judged for doing so....does being a reiki practioner mean I cant be opinionated. To be in the minority requires courage.
I am very passionate about reiki my life my family and my work....it makes me who I am and I am respected in my community for being so....lets keep that sprirt alive here please....
