Hi Moondance,I have recently passed my Reiki 1&2 aswell and also want to eventually set upmy own practise.I have been to two different people local to me for Reiki sessions and they have really nice Sheds or a 'lodge' as one lady calls it.Are you thinking about renting a room or practising from home?I have a friend who uses her spare room and does Indian Head Massage aswell.I am supposed to be getting a therapy couch tomorow as I find my back hurts too much without the height of one.Anyway I havent been much use to you only Good Luck!
Warm Blessings

Otoharo!
If I were you I would self treat for a good long while before setting up a practice. Get into a reiki share that meets weekly. Get lots of experience under your belt. You do not need reiki II yet. Practice reiki I.

Otoharo!
I recommend the same for you. Practice a good long while before taking in clients. A year is not too long for this. You do not need reiki II yet.

Hi Moondance
Practising on friends and family is the best way to start like you I am in a similar position,we mustnt rush things it will all come together when the time is right.I am a very impatient person and want to run b4 I can walk.Therapy couches ,I ordered one the nite b4 last on e bay and it arrived this morning Iam so pleased with it and the price. Its gone in our second sitting room,I will be trying it out on my daughter later.I can give u the details of the company if u like. Can I ask a question when u r giving Reiki do u feel anything? When I first tried it out on my Teacher my hands reacted differently in certain areas.Your cottage sounds like heaven it will all come together.
Warm Blessings

It is difficult! People love to receive reiki for free, but not so much to pay for it :) They are willing to go for a dozen physio sessions, and pay thirty bucks a pop, but with reiki you have to fix them right away, otherwise it "doesn't work". I've been giving free introductory sessions to show people how reiki works, but guess what, if it doesn't, they don't come back, and if it does, which is most of the time, they don't come back either, because they don't need to!!!! And the next time they need reiki, they go to their chiropractor, physiotherapist, doctor, whatever, completely forgetting that reiki worked!!!! Unless of course you're willing to give it for free, in which case they will happily ask you for it. There is this perception that you shouldn't ask money for it because it's a gift of God.
Anyone else has different experiences, please feel free to disagree :) Maybe it's just being in Canada, where OHIP pays for medical care :)
Cheers,
Judith

Otoharo!
Giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin. In order for the client to receive it is important that the client also give. Charging a fee settles that issue right off. The fee is for the benefit of the client.

I agree absolutely, but find it difficult to put into practice. I suppose my desire to do reiki is greater than my desire to be paid :) If I waited for people who paid me for reiki I'd be sitting on my hands!
What is "otoharo"? This is the first time I met this greeting. It sounds very beautiful.

Nope! Had all the experiences, Judith. I tell people that they are ultimately responsible for their own healing but they just don't want to do the work. They wnt that fast food fix. I, too, have people not return if they have to pay for it. I have done fairs, fundraisers, open houses and all for free. I have yet to get any return clients from them.
I am also employed by 2 spas where I offer reiki and yet even in that setting people are afraid of what they don't understand.
I was told awhile back that to make a living off of reiki alone is next to impossible. You have to offer other modalities alongside to draw people in.
Love and light,
Tracey

Hi;
First of all congratulations and all the best in your new practice.
I agree that you need to continue to practice on friends, family etc. but there is no reason why you can't begin to charge people also. Individuals tend to take responsibility for their own healing when thre is an exchange involved.
It is a difficult thing to run a practice if you expect to make a great income especially in the beginning. What I have found is that continually addding other healing modalities brings people back. Once a client comes to you it may be that the one session was all they wanted just to explore what Reiki is so I am pleased that they came even once. Some clients will return but due to the cost it is often not the case.
There are many methods to bring clients to you. Of course word of mouth is the best. Having a website is in my opinion one of the best ways as so many people now use the internet to explore and want to do some research before seeing a Reiki Practitioner. Once you have a website you can often get a link on other sites for free. Putting flyers or business cards up in health food stores, grocery stores, etc. is also another method.
I wish you every success and it is your mindful Intention to help others and to be a successful Reiki Practitioner that will guide you.
Love and light,
copper
