The Reiki Cafe 

Hi. I haven't been on this board much if at all over the last few years. I had a question for some of you out there that perhaps you could help me with.

I was attuned to Reiki I back in 2001 (around the time I had joined this board). Since then a lot has gone on in my life and about a month or so ago, it just started to "come to me" that I may be ready for the next level.

If anyone would like to answer, how did you know that you were ready to move up? Please feel free to e-mail me as well if you would like to give me a longer response. I am really interested in hearing about other's experiences.

Also, I also wonder if it would be a good time for this for me right now, as I am going through some personal difficulties.

- I am not sure Reiki 2 will be the solution for the 'difficulties' to which you allude - especially if giving and receiving Reiki as a Reiki 1 has not been of help

- at the same time I would not necessarily put off Reiki 2 simply becasue there is some stuff going on

- having said that? How did I know I was ready for going on with Reiki 2 training?? Well, after about 9-12 months of twice per month Reiki shares as well as other individual and self-Reiki work it just "felt" right to take the next step (when I met with the RM she agreed to provide the training). By the way, several others from my Reiki 1 group were involved in the Reiki shares and we all did our Reiki 2 at the same time.

- but, for me I would say it was not actually a "knowing" (that it was time for Reiki 2)

I don't know if I was completely clear. I understand that Reiki 2 goes more toward clearing deeper emotional and mental issues. I tend to have emotional issues to begin with, and I have been working on them for some time. I happened to notice that since Reiki has come into my life, it seems to help me work on these issues (I think, at least) in some way. Being that I tend to be emotionally sensitive in the first place, I didn't know if getting my next attunement now would be wise or if it would be better to hold off until things calm down a bit.

- when I did Reiki 2, lo these many years, we spent a good deal of time on the skills one needs to develop for distance work - for working with others when they are not right at hand (literally)

- we worked on focus and mindfulness and the sending of energy to each other (during one segment of our practices the RM had us do distance Reiki across the room with our feet as an excercise in MIndful movement of energy (as well as to get the channels cleared out head-to-toe, so to speak)

- but, Reiki 2 seemed much more about others than ourselves (Reiki 1 was a lot about ourselves because we learned the full Self-treatment) since Reiki for others is directly on the path of compassionate action

- and, since we were readying ourselves for more Reiki work for others, Mindfulness and permission were key issues

- in my estimation, the more we are able to sort ourselves out before getting into distance work the better off everyone will be

Don't worry about the 'knowing when to do reiki 2', you will know anyway when the time is right..
BUT, if you are going into this purely to help yourself with your own problems, then go for it!!, as the sooner YOU ARE HAPPY etc, & in control of your own life, then, & only then, can you truly help others...
