The Reiki Cafe 

Hello All,

I recently underwent my Reiki II attunement. A couple of days before my attunement I lost my pocketknife which my father gave to me, and I've carried daily for 14 years.

I looked for it high and low. I did everything in my power to ask for it's return.

After my 21 day cleansing, I found it last night in an unusual and perplexing place.

What do you suppose is the symbolism attached to the knife? I think that it is more than coincidental. I'm looking forward to your light and opinions.

You were giving yourself a message. It is yourself who injected into your actuality.

Back in 1994 when I moved into an office downtown, I offered reiki and also had room for my study, books,etc. There was the office with two alcoves using thus three ceiling lights.

One day, the plug in the office would not work. I made coffee from that plug. I reported to the landlord who sent an electrition to fix it. It could not be fixed!

When Xaris was next with us, I asked about this situation. She reported that I was doing this myself. I could not figure that out! I was the one who needed it and wanted it! She reiterated that I was sending myself a message.

I reported back to the landlord. He sent the electrition back. He could not make it work. Still the landlord was adamante that this be fixed. (He could not tolerate an energy interference in his space!)

The electrition returned. He worked on every single plug and outlet of every sort. Nothing solved the plug problem. I was sitting in my rocker really hoping and wishing it would work. At that moment he was working on the ceiling light ficture in the reiki alcove. Suddenly, the plug in the office worked!

I have a lost item story also. I lost a diamond out of my ring (it's a 3 stone ring). It could have been anywhere, I retraced the places I had been without any luck. The day before I had asked my RM what symbols to place in the corners of rooms to help clear them. Two days after I lost the diamond, I was feeling pretty low, so I decided to place the symbols in my bedroom. Not five minutes later I was sitting on the edge of my bed and I caught the sparkle of the diamond in the carpet. It's a short shaggy type carpetting and the diamond has been stepped on since it was down in the fibers. I was so shocked and relieved at the same time.

Dear Judevine,
Have you ever been parted with the knife before or is this truly the first time in 14 years?
Would suggest thinking about the meaning the knife has for you & why you might "need" or wish to be parted from it during your 21 day cleanse.
I agree that sometimes things just happen and other times we are more involved in the process, though not always consciously.
Many things are never fully explained but that adds to the wonder & mystery of life.

Sometimes I think we put too much emphasis on such things. Yes, perhaps there is meaning, but dwelling on it will get you away from your real work, which is to focus on learning Reiki, and your own development.

Or yes, as Firekeeper and Freud so aptly said "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".

Holobon - Honestly, I never have lost this before. It has been out of reach, but I've always known it's exactly location. (Such as a person borrowing it and not returning it right away.)

Deanie - You are right! I'm currently 28. This pocketknife is a big symbol of my father and his trust in me and his love for me. He has a matching knife that he carries around daily. I think it is a connection that we share. I carry mine to think of him, and he carries his to think of me. To have lost it for so long was quite startling to me. But I never REALLY believed it to be gone and I never told him it was missing because he would have been very upset.

The part I'm still working on is the message of losing it during my reiki attunement/cleanse?

Dear Judevine,
When I read your post these thoughts came to mind ( just thoughts & my reactions which I acknowledge probably say more about me than you :) Does your father support your involvement with Reiki? If not, Id wonder if that could possibly influence the temporary loss of the knife. You said that the knife is a symbol of the connection you have with your father, well, from what you have written it appears that strong connection exists with or without the knife at your side. As we advance in Reiki experience, we become aware of the connection, of the Reiki flow, with or without the symbols. In the beginning we need the symbols & with time, perhaps that need dissolves as our awareness of the flow increases. I would imagine that as you become more involved in Reiki, that the whole idea of symbols & connections, energy, etc is allowing you to see your life in new ways & be open to new connections & maybe even challenge how you think of symbols. My guess is that this is what is happening. The role of symbols in our lives is more powerful than we realize, IMHO.
