How do I do a Reiki Circle?

Hi Guys,

I've just been asked to do a reiki healing circle to promote reiki and my services to newcomers to reiki (at a new studio), but I have never done one, only attended one. How does one do a Reiki circle anyway? Can I do one by myself?

I am assuming that guests sit in chairs in a circle and I go around giving them reiki while meditative music plays. This lasts for about an hour. This was my experience when I attended one as a recipient.

Thanks!

That is not what we call a reiki circle here. We have a reiki table set up and one person gets on the table and everyone else gathers around in chairs, stools, whatever, and we all be reiki with this person. Front and back, the usual positions but of course depending on how many are there, hands are placed on the person.

Then each other person gets on the table, one by one and we all be reiki with them. If we know how many are there or to be there, we divide the time by that number so we know about how much time to spend on each person.

Hi finality

what you are describing is actually Shuchu Reiki (a Group Reiki Treatment), not the 'Reiki Circle' (AKA the 'Reiki Current' or 'Reiki Mawashi')

Reiki Mawashi is a group-based energy cycling meditation.

It can also be used as a means of giving Reiki Treatment.

In the West, Reiki Mawashi is commonly referred to as the Reiki Circle as it involves a group of Reiki practitioners seated in a circle.

Each practitioner holds their left hand palm up and their right hand palm down.

They place their right hand on the upward-facing left palm of the person to their right and their left hand under the downward-facing right palm of the person to their left.

In this way, all the practitioners are connected, forming an unbroken chain or circle.

Entering the crown of each practitioner, Reiki flows around the circle, in an anti-clockwise direction, and can frequently build to levels of considerable intensity.

In some versions of Reiki Mawashi, rather than making actual physical contact with the person on either side, the practitioners keep their hands an inch or two apart.

Some also suggest that when Reiki Mawashi is employed as a means of giving treatment, a Reiki Master should stand at the center of the circle, directing/'beaming' the flow of Reiki to the specific chosen intent.

Hi Tracy,

I think the Reiki Circle is a bit of a misnomer.

The folks who have answered you are totally correct, in that a Reiki Circle can mean a Reiki Share, where each takes turns at being the patient or recipient, and others treat that person; alternatively Mawashi is often used during a Reiki seminar or teaching session, for the group to feel the energy that has been generated.

It seems to me that what you are referring to is a Reiki demonstration, where you have a group of non Reiki people who you wish to inform further about Reiki, by means of some sort of group treatment, offering each person some healing while seated. I have seen this used in Healing Centres where people come for healing of all sorts, not just Reiki, and sit in a line, or circle, and the healer or healers move amongst the group, treating each person in turn.

Hope this may help.

Love andlight,
philanty

Yes Philanty that's what I was referring to. In the U.S. they are more popularly referred to as "reiki circles" (apparently also or originally called a "reiki share")and they are popping up everywhere at yoga and wellness centers.

People can come pay $5 or $10 and sit in a circle with other guests. The reiki practitioner(s) walk around placing their hands on each guest for 5 minutes or so. The practioner(s) continue around the circle for an hour or so.

This is done to introduce newcomers to Reiki and it's benefits or to help people who cannot afford a full private session.

Peace,

Hi, Tracy,
When I have had people sit in a circle and I take turns putting my hands on each person, it has been interesting. The energy , even if my hands are only placed on one person, is often felt by the others in the circle. I say do what works with the group and space available. I like Finality's way of doing a Reiki share. I was concerned because I only have one table, and I have a few people who want to start a share. Have fun!

Hi Feather,

That's what I was thinking might happen- the energy being experienced and amplified by a group. I was thinking of encouraging guests to put their hands on a part of their body that needs healing and to send healing energy. This teaches people about self-healing, even if they do not have attunements, and I think will encourage them to open up more.

Those new to Reiki are often closed or guarded in sessions and don't really know how to "open up" and receive the energy.

Fascinating stuff!
