Hello every one, I have a question... when I started Reiki six years ago my hands were very hot and even sweaty some times... in the last year I have noticed my hands get very cold during a treatment and the other day the same thing happend during an attunement is this normal? I seem to be getting very cold lately and I cant understand why? My clients do not feel the cold so much but to me it feels very very cold...
Is it just the energy or is it a message for me? some times it starts cold and heats up gradually other times I feel the energy very hot and then it cools down dramatically. I have searched on the web but I am not 100% convinced from the answers...
Beams of Love and Light to you all and thank you

Katerina,
Hi,
Try to keep in mind that heat is only one of the many qualities of energy by which we may detect its presence and activity; and 'heat' is certainly not the most subtle of energy's qualities.
I suppose this is all to say: try not to worry. Just keep after your practices. By-the-way, at times some energy can actually be perceived as 'cold' when it is most effective. So, perhaps not all the energy you were accessing was "Reiki".
:)
Cheers,
RC

Thank you RC,
I am not worried but some one asked me the other day ( why are your hands cold and some times hot?) and I said I would find out. All this time it did not bother me I just thought that, that is what the person needs. Which was my original response to the q. What did you mean when you said "not Reiki energy?" To me the energy whether it is called Reiki or Spiritual healing or any other is still the same kind from the same source. Am I wrong or is there different types of "Energy"? Some one mentioned that it could be influenced by "Other" beings but I do not work like that... maybe you can help me understand this one...
Thank you very much

Katerina,
Hi,
The energy we access through Reiki practices is only one aspect of the entire complex of energy which is ULE. And, the intention and mindfulness we are able to muster and apply also affects the nature of the energy(s) we bring to any session. In Reiki, the goal is to keep personal energy out. In other practices, personal energy is part of the method. So, it is also possible that the variations in heat you sense could relfect some variation in the intention you had at the time and mindfulness with which you applied it.
Remember too, that the amount of energy that is actually received by the "client" is a direct function of how much energy that person is accepting through their intentions to use the energy and the mindfulness he\she applies. Thus, if the person cuts back on the amount of energy accepted, the flow will diminish and it is possible that you may then sense this as cooling of your hands.
Cheers,
RC

Thank you RC
I am not 100% sure I understood every thing I will read it over and over and at some stage I might get it... when it happens for now I will only smile and say thank you for a very diferent way of looking at this phenomenon...

Dear Katerina,
Cold hands may reflect what is going on with you or the client or both of you. So that leaves alot of possibilities!
What I have experienced personally is that coldness can be associated with not being present while working on a client ( distraction, inadequate preparation, etc), a client rejecting the energy or harboring fear (thereby shutting down the energy flow), the room temperature is too chilly, changes in body such as menopause.
My suggestion:move away from the association of "warmth" as the only hallmark of successful energy flow and accept that the perception of energy can change in Reiki practitioner & recipient.
One practitioner I know views hot & cold as yin & yang issues. Dont know more than that, so cant reply intelligently on that point.
peace & joy,
holobon

Otoharo!
I have just remembered something about cold hands. People who are earth people (as different from water, fire, and air) have cold hands naturally.
Also, a friend of mine met with cold ness early on when being reiki with others. She learned that it was connected with death. Whereas, she is choosing life, most people are choosing death. She could detect that.

Yesterday morning I had a new client coming... I took care in my preparation before her arrival cleand the room energeticaly etc... set my intentions and when she came and did the treatment I noticed that besides cold hands sometimes very very cold they were sweaty and I did feel variations in the tempreture at parts of her body where I felt she needed more Reiki... but the feeling was still cold... I was very focused and very present to the extent I was interfering... when I realised this I stayed out of my thoughts and continued todo what I know channel energy and visualising the client in a golded bubble filling her up with light etc... to me it was all still the same. At the end of the session she said cause I asked her that my hand were cold at first but then became warm as I was moving down. to her it was great and she felt relaxed and she said it was different to her other treatments but shecould not define as to how? Any way I will keep notes on what is going on in my own life as well as the clients if I can and if I find any interesting possibilities I will post them so you can share ideas. Like I said this was not always the case... it only started happening in the last six months and its not like this all the time.
Thank you very much for the sharing and interest..blessings and love to you all

Dear Katerina
When I first started reiki, also about six years ago, my hands used to get extremely hot - to the point of virtual discomfort. And strangely my heels as well. The reiki flowed strong and effortlessly, but I was concerned ... seeming on the point of spontaeous combustion!
I did a posting on this message board, and the clear consensus which emerged in the response was that I should practice "grounding". Accordingly I started doing Tai Chi and Qi Gong, and after a while the energy started to alternate between heat and cold. But in my experience, both are effective and relate to what the person being treated needs.
I am not sure whether the cold energy is cold reiki, or the cool earth energy that some qi gong practitioners refer to. Frankly, I not sure if it matters. To me it's all good :-)
Go well

There's some good stuff in old posts about this topic.
My viewpoint: hands are noticeably hot to the practitioner when starting out in Reiki, likely due to the clearing that's going on within the practitioner. Just like with electricity, resistance creates heat.
As time goes by, and the practitioner gradually clears out the resistance, the practitioner's perception of temperature changes, typically cooling. That can be a good thing, indicating free flow of Reiki.
From the client's view, some conditions need coolness instead of warmth, for example liver inflammation.
My advice to students is, do not get attached to subjective hand warmth as an indicator that Reiki is working. Your experience will change over time, of what you feel while giving Reiki. Check in with the client, see what they're feeling.
It's easy and understandable to equate hand warmth with good Reiki flow, because it's such a dramatic thing in the beginning. As you continue your practice, and connect ever more deeply with Reiki itself, just be mindful of how YOU are changing, growing and healing from your practice. Everyone has their own indicators of how Reiki is working for them and others. The important thing -- is self-healing improving for you and clients as you deepen your practice?
Personally, I perceive coolness as a good thing, take it as meaning my energy is more in balance.
Blessings,
Aronaya
