Wandering thoughts

Hello there,

I am new to the boards, I joined last week. I am a Reiki 1 at the moment and am taking Reiki 2 on 10th June.

At the moment I am only really treating myself. But I find that my mind is wandering all over the place. What should I focus on while treating? I find that I'm thinking about what's for dinner, what I saw on TV last night, and all things like that. When I have done Reiki 2 will it help me to focus?

Thanks
Donna

Donna,

Hi,

Where you put your mind is up to you. During Reiki perhaps focus on where you want the energy to go and stay focused there. If other thoughts intrude that is OK: happens all the time even during mindfulness meditation. They key is to see the thought and then let it go away turning your mind back to that place where you are sending energy. Or, simpl;y focus on your breathing while you do Reiki. And, as thoughts arise see them then let them go and re-focus on your breathing.

And, I would rather doubt that Reiki 2, alone, will cure this issue. Experienced meditation Teachers still have 'thoughts arising' as they meditate. They simply do not wander off with those thoughts.

:)

Cheers,

RC

Welcome to the ranks. Focus on your wandering thought. All of them. These are just reminders or something. The more you try and focus on them and then let them go, the more they'll bother you. Write them down. If it's something that needs to be done, do it. It's not your thoughts that wander, it's your mind.
I find when doing reiki on myself, I begin to get restless.
Maybe I have the same and should take my own advice.
Thanks for the reminder.
In a way you've helped me resolve an issue by bringing my awarness to it and me coming up to the above conclusion.

Dear Donna,
We live in busy times, our minds are constantly filled with things to do & we are encouraged to always be one step ahead. Slow down during Reiki & think about what you are doing in that moment & what you are feeling during that process.
It might help to spend a little time preparing yourself before Reiki. Listen to music that calms you, meditate, yoga, warm bath or say a prayer, etc. You may have to disentangle yourself mentally from your "schedule" and responsibilities, etc. before Reiki. Some people create a "sacred space" where they feel calm, away from the main stressors or attention getting aspects of their lives. With practice you will find that eventually you will not need to do this any longer, it will come naturally.

peace & joy,
