The Reiki Cafe 

I am new. I am kind of nervous because I really know very little about this topic, I have been lurking for a little while, but have yet to post.

I am chronically ill and I am interested in learning to use Reiki. It started when I was involved in a little "energy play" with my children and accidentally "tickled" one of them with energy. I was told by a number of people I should get involved in some sort of healing and I kept seeing things about Reiki everywhere. I decided to trust fate and follow where it seemed to be leading me.

My question is this, will my own chronic illness affect my ability to use Reiki? Is this something that someone like myself should even be studying? Also how does one learn and get attunements and avoid the possibility that one is being played?

Like I said this is all very new to me. I am just hoping I do not look too foolish.

Many people who practice Reiki have some sort of chronic illness. That shouldn't keep you from learning if you want to.

As for the other question. You will have to do your research. Talk to people, check out local new age type stores for ads, try a search on this site for someone in your area who teaches, check out local massage schools they sometimes offer Reiki classes to their students and may be able to give you a couple of names.

When you have a few names talk to them and see how thier philosophy fits with yours. There are many different ways to practice Reiki these days and you need to know what the person who is going to teach you adds into their practice and you need to be comfortable with whatever it is.

Personally I would try to find someone who sticks to the Usui Reiki basics. If you haven't already, check out James Deacon's website for Reiki info.

I agree with Diosa, reiki does not recognize our labels on thing! It just does its thing! Illness is not "real". So to reiki illness does not exist. I hope you give it a chance.
