Hi everyone,
I hope you don't think I'm being frivolous.....BUT before I started Reiki I never had a mosquito bite, now I'm covered! And they are driving me demented! I think that they ae attracted by the chemicals you have on your skin, so, maybe menopausal has changed my pheromones/hormones and they now find me tasty! BUT any thoughts on them being attracted by Reiki? I'm not being flippant I just need to have some idea so I can counteract whatever is calling them as I will have no skin left soon! Any remedies/cures gratefully received!

Dear Annie,
My guess as to why you're attracting mosquitoes? Reiki adds hemoglobin to the blood, in other words, the oxygen supply in it is increased. So in other words, I think probably you have healthier, tastier blood.
Citronella essential oil is supposed to ward off mosquitoes. There are also natural remedies for bug bites. I'd check your local natural store.

This is very interesting! I went on vacation to New Hampshire last summer only a few weeks after getting my Reiki 1 attunement. When we hiked on one of the mountains there I was CONSTANTLY being attacked by all kinds of biting bugs. I've never experienced anything like that, and it ruined the hike for me. Even at the top of the exposed mountain where you'd think there wouldn't be too many bugs, I was like a giant bug magnet! I thought that the Reiki may have had something to do with it, but until I read your story I thought I must've been wrong. :-)
Aloe vera gel works well on bites, by the way . . . I hope your itchies go away soon!

Annie,
Hi,
Recently I have read several studies, which sounded fairly reliable, that mosquitos can sense the CO2 and lactic acid out-put of organisms in their vicinity. The chemical receptors of the insect are sensitive to the presence of these chemicals.
I have found that, if I am to be outside exerting myself where mosquitos are known to be, pre-medicating myself 30 minutes before going out with a barely clinically effective dose of an OTC antihistamine is quite effective in keeping me comfortable should I be punctured. And, there have been occasions that premedicating seems to reduce the interest the little blighters have in me (but that is only anecdotal evidence) which is fine given the possibility, though slight, of a West Nile Virus carrier finding me.
But, if one is to be out in heavily infested areas Deet is still the ticket to keep them off.
Cheers (1\2-tab, 'prophylactic' Tavist cocktail for me),
RC

Hi, I've discovered something! Avon skin so Soft body oil spray is fab!It keeps them at bay completely! and of course you get soft skin.....It doesn't smell too girly so my husband uses it too. Apparently it was issued to English troops in Bosnia.....Works for me, try it! Thanks for the Aloe Vera tip it has helped. And I ve stopped doing Reiki in the garden, which is sad as it is lovely to work outside, feet on the earth, looking across tehvalley at the sunflowers....Ho hum!

annie,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I suspect there are 'things' other than Reiki (your blood comes to mind) in which the nasties are interested

Annie,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- who knows.
- but I am not one for "coincidences"
- perhaps more 'squeeters' around this season - especially if you are in a area that has gotten a lot of rain
- perhaps your chemistry is more desireable to them right now? Could that be related to Reiki? I doubt it but, who knows?
- maybe the Master training and attunements in some way made your blood more delicious
- or, perhaps some Karmic thing

I might have heard somewhere that swinging a fresh haggis vigorously around your head can have some deterrent effect on mosquitoes (hyuk!)
But seriously, you might also try asking the mosquitoes to take it easy on you. Or ask the Earth you're walking on what might be done to make your time outdoors more pleasant.
Good luck!

Aronaya

aronaya,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I certainly would not abuse haggis in such a manner
bagl
- and, if anything, the sweet aroma of the vittles would draw the little blighters; not chase them off
- talk to the mosquitos? Hmmm. Has potential. bagl
- so, have you taken the mosquito on as one of your Power Animals??
