- the same view would suggest that doing Reiki practices for someone who has transitioned involves a form of projection and that the energy may be more likely to find the sender and be of some value to that person in dealing with personal issues connected with the person who has died or with issues about death and dying and grief

- there are other practices for 'interacting' with what continues after the physical body expires

My teacher used to talk about sending reiki to the dead in the sense of helping you to deal with issues from the past. If you experienced trama caused by someone who is no longer living on this plane, you cannot deal with the issue by confronting them or discussing it. But after working through the issue as much as you can, you can send reiki to the person. In that way you can karmically forgive the dead for any wrongs that they committed to you. Also, I believe you can send the dead reiki for any pain that they experienced in the life. It is my understanding that it is a way to send them love. Similarly, you can send reiki to your past self.

Sometime ago a very close friend of mine became ill suddenly and passed away in a matter of a few days. I was sending her Reiki and on the last day when I tried to send there was no connection to her hence no place to send the Reiki. We had always had a very good connection when sending to one another and suddenly there was none. That is when I knew she had passed.

I think that Firekeeper is dead on on this one :-)

hmm all very interesting. I send love constantly to my brother, but i have only actually sent him a distance healing once. I felt the energy draw through very strongly. I wonder though... because in my minds eye i see him as he was in life so maybe the reiki goes to him for when he was alive....

If we can feel no energy after a persons death then where does the energy go? if to another plane or universe or to at some point another incarnation... could the energy be drawn through us from there?

Also, maybe they dont need to draw energy at point of death but maybe are able to draw it once again after incarnation. These points are not necessarily something i believe. just a wondering thought. i dont know?

roxylady,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- you said in part: "I felt the energy draw through very strongly."

- one view is that it is more than likely that you were the beneficiary of that energy - Why??

- because it is likely that the 'vision' of him that you saw in your mind's eye was "memory" but also, at least in part, projection from your Unconscious and thus represented some aspects of yourself

>:-}}

- also, the energy does not travel back in time

I did wonder that but am still tossing it over in my mind... i'll let you now when I have come to my own conclusion.

Why do you believe you cannot send energy into the past?

oh yeah, and sorry about the caps b4.. no shouting intended just a distinction between answer and question.... im not sure how to do italics... I shall have to investigate... or cut and paste next time i suppose.

roxylady,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- no worries about the 'caps'

>:-}}

- implicit in the idea of sending energy into the past is that the past would be affected (changed) in some manner

- the past cannot be changed - it has already occurred

- but, if one were to actually change the past, all that we know as it is now would cease to exist

As another member of the forum (long AWOL) used to say.

"All healing is done in the present. What we change is our perception of what is past."

Healing doesn't require that we change past events but it does cause us to change our view of what happend. That happens in the present.

If we actually sent energy into the past we would effectively change the past. Changing the past would change the present. We would not be where we are today (or possibly even here at all) because we would have been led to another future. If the past were changed we wouldn't have brought the issues associated with it into the present.

Hello all,

After much thinking I am not sure where I am going with this but I will begin. Interesting questions brought up by Roxylady..

I have never felt the need to try to send Reiki to someone dead. I do offer prayers for their transition. So, if you do try to send Reiki to a dead person and no connection is made I might assume the energy just circles back to the sender or goes out to the energy pool in the Universe. At death the physical life force energy leaves the body as no longer needed. We can also assume that emotional, spiritual etc. also leaves as no need to remain. I then assume that means there is nothing left for most energy work to be done on. The exception to me would be Shamanic practices.

Roxy you asked where does the energy go upon death. Do we really know? I assume it leaves and goes out and about and sometime, somewhere, somehow accrued karma is dealt with.

A long time ago I had posted some of this before. I was sending Reiki to Louise and at one point during her last day I felt many things changing. At first I sensed the energy going inward and then at some point the energy was being repelled. As I tried to smooth her aura it had holes in it and ridges, ridges that seemed very hard and bumpy/wavy. I seemed to sense her energy leaving her body and bright lights of energy traveled from her and upward which I assumed to the Universe/Heaven. Something told me to stop and that is what I did. Apparently there was no more need for "healing" energy to be sent or received. As Rebecca said the connection stopped. So, we stop.
After some discussion I later learned one of our members here did some Shamanic work to further assist Louise during her transition and/or after life.
I firmly believe that if anyone wants to deal with energy work with a dead person to leave that up to a learned and qualified Shaman as they are trained to do work in the other realms. We other energy workers are not. Just my opinion.

When my brother was ill with cancer some years back my first teacher suggested to me that I view a photo of him when younger and when doing energy work on him in the present to see him healthy as he was in the photo. So I did not attempt to change the past but to visualize him as healthy and whole once again in the now.

In the now we bring up past experiences/memories in an effort to clear ourselves of any negative baggage and dis-ease we still carry around that no longer serves us in an effort to heal ourselves. We each heal ourselves, energy workers only facillitate the energy circle flow. I don't feel a dead person has this energy flow on the planes we know of here at least.

As usual we are all here to learn. You have made me do a lot of thinking on these questions.

Im really fuddled on this one... not sure where to start - thoughts circling around... i shall give you my stream of present consciousness and maybe you can help me out and make some sense of it.

Okay, so the past the present and the future are all the same thing.. one long moment that we are all in that all happens at once... Time is the fourth dimension which we travel through. so all of it happens at once... so if i send reiki to a past event, it was already going to happen before i sent it... so i dont change anything.

Now, I kinda believe that you can send reiki to those who have crossed over... I became attuned to reiki just after my brother died. Although i was not attuned to reiki 2, i heard that you could simply send people who have passed away, love and positive energy to help them through whatever they go through next. So i did.

This of course was very healing for myself to beleive that i could still help my brother although he no longer here. I did feel the energy being taken. But the thing im pondering is this: Everything is energy... so if there is a continuation after death, which i believe there is. Then there must be an energy which could receive energy, wherever it may be. Maybe the particular moment of transition from life into death is sufficiently supported but after that moment the soul can retreive energy needed once again. and maybe as you say only a shaman can help someone in the stages between death and rebirth, but why? (sorry dont know much about shamanism, please excuse my ignorance) Wouldnt any positive energy (Reiki included) sent with love help a soul a long their way?

Dear Roxylady,

The past exists in this present moment as a mind-constructed thought or emotion. What I think about a past event is not that past event itself. I can remember it, attach feelings to it, even obsess over it...but all these things are not that past, they are my thought forms about it.

Following that premise (if you are so inclined :-) we could not help someone heal their past (that is, send Reiki to their past). What we could do is help them heal the effects of their past...but that happens in this moment.

Hi Roxy

It has been my experience that energy is not needed on the other side. Loving thoughts sent to those we love are always appreciated.

I have been a medium for the last few years and never have I received a message that healing is still needed after passing to next life. On the contrary the ones that lived selfish lives here are the first to jump in and assist people here.
There souls shine brightly.

Have a great day

- yes, once transition has occurred it is necessary to move on to the next incarnation to continue to resolve Karma (something no one else can do for us - with Reiki or any other practice)

Otoharo!

I can't answer you but only state my thoughts. In the real world what we are doing now is not real. But it is actual. In the actual world (which is wht we experience now) we think in time segments. In the real world there is no time, and there is no space. Our brains can not encompass that yet. So as we consider the future of one who has left this actual world, we get all whomperjawed trying to think of it. How do we know someone needs our help? Perhaps they are in a position to offer help to us instead?

Lazaris stated that we can change anything in our past as long as we are still who we are now. Those of you who believe in karma, can you gnow that one?
