Is it safe to give and/or receive Reiki in the first trimester of pregnancy? I can't seem to find conclusive information anywhere (I know certain types of massage are contraindicated.) Usui Sensei's healing guide says to treat the womb daily for a healthy fetus, but I don't know if that meant for the entire pregnancy or after the first trimester. Any help is appreciated.
Peace and light to you all.

Reikini,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- unless you notice anything of 'concern' then the guidelines of daily Reiki during pregnanacy would, of course, include the first tri-mester
>:-}}
- and since this is likely self-Reiki to which you refer I suspect there are no permission issues?
>:-}}
- enjoy the practices

Otoharo!
In my experience of being reiki with a pregnant friend, reiki was helpful in all respects. The fetus' soul will let one know when enough reiki has been given on the uterus area.

Hi Reikini,
I gave myself Reiki and also gave and received Reiki and spiritual healing throughout each trimester of my pregnancy with my third child. It was a lovely bonding experience to be able to give my unborn child Reiki :)
Out of all my children he is the most placid and laid back....not sure whether that is down to the Reiki or the fact that he is the third born :))
I also agree that you will know if it doesn't feel right...listen to your intuition and tune into the baby :)
Gentle Blessings

Thank you everyone for your responses. This is very helpful...and reassuring. I too think it will create a strong maternal and spiritual bond. I will definitely trust my intuition as far as this process goes.
Namaste!

Helen,
Did you experience morning sickness? Did you find that Reiki was helpful for that? I have been doing Reiki on my solar plexus area and I think it's helping but not long after I stop, the nausea kicks in again. Any suggestions?
I recently had my ART/Master attunements and have been so fatigued and sick that I haven't been able to take much advantage of the increased energies.
One thing I can say about this pregnancy is that I *knew* when the fertilized egg had implanted in the uterus because I suddenly had an increase of energy running from my crown chakra that lasted about a day or so. It came out of nowhere and something just told me that I was no longer alone in my body! :)

Hi Reikini,
Sorry I've been away on holiday so have only just read your message.
Yes unfortunately I had morning sickness for the whole of the first 3 months of my third pregnancy. Reiki helped with my energy levels and tiredness but alas not much for the sickness. Cut out caffeine, nibble ginger biscuits,get plenty of rest and eat little and often to keep the nausea at bay and take heart it does get better :)
Gentle Blessings

Thanks Helen for your good wishes! I agree that Reiki doesn't seem to do much for the nausea, unfortunately, although it does help with general stomach discomfort. I've been doing everything else that's recommended for relieving nausea -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! I need to do more Reiki in the morning to help with my energy levels.
Namaste!

Hi, I'm a mom of 7, soon to be 8. I have done reiki to myself for my last two pregnancies and now in my current pregnancy. I find it does help with the little discomforts, as well as help me with my overall energy. It also helped me during a miscarriage I suffered last year. I agree that it did not really help a lot with nausea... but I think morning sickness in pregnancy is a way of telling you what you need and don't need at that point in pregnancy.
I have never found that it harms the fetus in any way... if anything, it can help that mom-baby connection. :) I only wish I knew about reiki and how to use it with my previous pregnancies. Congratulations on your pregnancy, and I hope you feel better soon.

reikini,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- you could try eating something high in protein each night before bed to help keep blood sugar levels steady overnight
- peppermint oil (a bit of aromatherapy) or peppermint tea can help ease the nausea
- you might also try Reiki to the neck at the base of the skull and at the throat, under the chin

Thank you for your reply!
Wow -- 8 children! How do you have time for Reiki? :)
I am starting to feel better. Very little or no nausea the past few days (just ravenously hungry!) I do like giving myself Reiki to help with some of those other little discomforts you describe, as well as establishing the connection to my baby. Some days it pulls a lot of energy, other days less so. It seems to know what it needs (hence, all the food...ha ha!)
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy too! Wishing you a happy and healthy # 8!

Hi Firekeeper,
Thanks for the suggestions...very helpful! I have started trying to eat some protein before bed and it does seem to help. I've heard conflicting things about peppermint. Some people say it's not safe because it can cause early labor while others say it's fine. I've used peppermint tea and oil for digestive problems in the past, but I guess when in doubt, go without.
It's funny that you should mention applying Reiki to the neck at the base of the skull and at the throat because the other morning, I suddenly felt moved to put my hands in both of those places and give myself Reiki, whereas before I was concentrating mostly on my solar plexus and stomach region. The universe is always at work, even when I don't know it! :)

- some extra focus from those areas may increase the effectiveness of the mechanisms (structures) of the brain that control nausea and vomitting

Thanks! :) I do the local Saturday Market, and I'm trying out my reiki practice there with short 'intro to reiki' type treatments. What I'd like to do is offer reiki during pregnancy & labor & postpartum to those moms who would like it. But that will take some time.
I want to comment on the peppermint... mint dries up lactation as effectively as sage, so if you are drinking mint tea or anything, make sure mint is only a small component of the drink. I know mint also helps with nausea, but in my book it isn't worth the trouble it could cause with nursing. I use mint and sage with my bunnies when the babies are weaned to dry up excess milk and prevent mastitis. Colostrum can already be starting to form in the first trimester for some moms.
Red raspberry leaf tea has helped me with nausea... but some people don't feel comfortable drinking that during the first trimester either. I have never had any problems with it, personally, but you should feel comfortable with a treatment before you use it. Ginger can be effective for nausea as well. I am glad to hear you are starting to feel better... must be nearing that magic transformation into the 2nd trimester? :)
