Dear All,
Whenever I self-treat I find it very hard to switch my brain off - it's not channelled or (ususally) intuitive information - just chatter. It means that treatments aren't automatically relaxing. Do other Reiki people have this happen or have tips to stop it happening? By the way I am a Gemini introvert and apparently both have "chattery" minds generally.
In love and light,
Skybird
PS I thought this icon is a good representation of my brain!

skybird,
Hi,
Perhaps look into mindfulness meditation as a practice. It is very helpful for reigning in monkey mind.
Cheers,
RC

Hi, I think this is absolutely normal! For me I find that if I acknowledge the thought but don't follow it it passes hrough and leaves me in peace....or untill the next one comes along! So it goes something like this... Hmm, I'm thinkin gabout what to have for supper, .............Oh, I'm wondering about work tomorrow, .......hmm, I'm thinking about the kids now.......
Eventually mind shuts up! and I can continue in peace

Otoharo!
I had trouble and more trouble with this myself. Finally, Xaris suggested that I go down in my elevator, still hearing the chatter up there in the head, but I am down here where I meditate. Here I did self treatment.

Dear All,
Thank you all for your advice/thoughts. I have been thinking of doing mindfulness meditation for some time. I have a mindfulness meditation on Cd by Jack Kornfield so will now give it a go. Just after I read your message Reikicurmudgeon, I looked through my Australian Flower Essence cards and chose one at random (without seeing the front) - it was Boronia essence, which helps to still/quieten a chattery mind. Then I started reading a book and the following quote popped up on one of the first pages I read "you get your intuition back when you make space for it, when you stop the chattering of the rational mind." (Anne Lamott). I think someone is trying to tell me something!

I too am a Gemini introvert (Sun cj. Saturn) and most would believe that to be an oxymoron! lol! I do suffer from incessant mind chatter and to try to circumvent this by visualizing or simply being aware of the energy flowing upon the point I am working on. Sometimes that escapes my attention so then I try to focus on breath. In my experience the energy still flows regardless of where my thoughts are but it does flow better when I'm able to concentrate on the energies.
Hope you find success and when you do, it would be kind for you to share your technique.
I appreciate reading your message.

Thank you Aum for your suggestions, I will try them and also let you know what works when I find success.
Yes a Gemini introvert is an oxymoron - I could do with more Gemini verbal qualities at times.

Skybird
