degeneration in disk in lower back

Hi there!
I have had lower back problems for years and wonder why it hasn't cleared up as I've done Reiki; chiropractic; accupuncture; nutrition; counseling; rolfing; to name a few. If the skeletel system rebuilds itself every so many months then why does it continue on with this degeneration? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

- your physician\rheumatologist can answer that question the best

- suffice it for me to say that some degenerative disorders 'over-ride' the regenerative powers of the body

also at some point in our lives the osteoblasts outnumber the osteoclasts and bone is lost rather than built. Fact of nature.

i feel that you can do what you can to heal a physical problem but if the emotional problem related to it is not resolved or released then the physical symptons will continue to recur. x

i suffer from lower back pain and am inclined to believe it is related to my sacral chakra...

Have you tried Iyengar Yoga? it is amazing! x

Prosperity,

Yoga is great stuff. You might also investigate more mundane exercises for flexibility and strengthening, the lower abdominals in particular. They don't cure the condition, but can certainly make it much easier to live with.

Bright blessings; hail Eris!

Dear FK,
I have never heard of a rheumatologist yet what you say makes sense. I always learn something new here.

Dear Rebecca,
That makes sense as well. Osteoblasts versus Osteoclasts. Interesting.

Dear Roxy,
I have not tried Iyengar Yoga. I have done some yoga however and it does help. I most likely still have an emotional problem of not feeling supported, surrounding myself with emotional vampires. Of course I am not one. Not me of course. It is probably related to my root chakra which is survival I suppose. Is that the same as the sacral chakra? thank you so much, I will try that.

Dear Golden,

yes the good old abdominals. I hate them. Yet I have been forcing myself to do them. I have gained weight. Makes sense and I need these re-reminders.

thank you,

Hi Properity,
Isn't it great to be able to tap into so much knowledge! There is a schoolof thought that says lower backproblems are to do with lack of support in your life, either continuously or at a moment of trauma. Would that fit? Seems you have loads of supprt here from eveery one but maybe it fits elsewhere in your life???

the sacral chakra relates to your emotions so they are probably interlinked. Iyengar yoga is very precise and works great on specific problems. I am not sure where you are from but if you want to find a teacher in your area... you just need to google... BKS Iyengar Association of whichever country your in. and there is usually a list of qualified teachers.

this is the official site for the uk.

Oh, good gosh, prosperity---you may wanna pull up a chair for this one.....
For more than eleven years my husband suffered from herniated discs, ruptured discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, arthritis at L-5 S-1. sciatica, leg pain, foot numbness, la la la, so on and so forth, world without end, amen, amen.....not to mention the worst part, the depression and stress that comes with constant pain.
I had always thought that the incessant back issues were due to the fact that he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's one of those people who prides himself on how much work he can do in one day, on the fact that he has worked three jobs at a time to support his family of six, that everything must be completed in a day and completed perfectly.....noble, yes. Admirable, yes. Realistic, not always. An absolute human-doing, not a human-being.
He never takes time to breathe.
Reiki treatments are more than about "curing" the physical. With Reiki we rest. We go deep inside ourselves to that place that we just don't pay attention to while we're running ourselves into the ground. We listen. We feel. We let go and we receive. It is about tapping into that deeper self where healing really happens--on a spiritual and emotional level. And our bodies respond in kind.
Maybe what I'm trying to say is that Reiki heals on more than one level....and if it seems your body is not responding, look elsewhere to what IS responding. Reiki will heal your attitude, giving you strength to cope with physical issues, giving you insight and hope---and importantly, a rest from fear and frustration. That's what I believe, anyway.
So. My husband. He never responded to Reiki either, in a physical sense. However, I definitely believe that his situation did. He was able to participate in a clinical study at Yale University and a year and a half ago, he received two artificial discs. I believe it saved his life. I believe it was the spiritual focus of the Reiki, along with the guidance of my Spirit Guides, that led us on this journey.
Make any sense?
Any time we tap into the resources of the universe, it can answer in any of a thousand ways. Maybe not always how we expect, though.
If you or anybody wants more info on this proceedure, PLEASE contact me. And I wish you all the very best this life has to offer.

- Rheumatologists are one of the specialties that likely will know about degenerative disorders associated with arthritis, etc

- another source for help if you have a rehabilitation hospital in your area is consulting a Physiatrist (an MD of physical medicine) - Physiatrists also often have physical therapists who consult on and do therapy with their patients

Dear Roxy X,
Emotional imbalances have been known to effect me or vice versa. Emotions versus feelings have always been confusing to me. Thank you for info on Iyengar. I did find a teacher in my area and have e-mailed her.

Dear Coyotesong,
Wow, I would definately like more info. I am glad your husband is doing good and found the Yale clinical study.
Meditation is again the key for me and Reiki practice does have a way of moving me into a different relaxed zone. Thanks for that information and the re-reminders we all need to hear. I really am not that ambitious as your husband is or was as my back prevents me from overdoing it.

Dear FK,

Thanks for that definition of a Rheumatologist to help me understand about degenerative disorders regarding arthritis and I have always wanted to work more with physical therapy. I have never heard of a Physiatrist either. You are most helpful.
So, again thank you.

prosperity,
I agree with roxylady on this one. Look to your sacral chakra and the emotion that is centered in that area.
Most back pain will be at a level that corresponds to a chakra and thus can be attributed to an emotional imbalance at that level.
