The Reiki Cafe 

I just moved to Grand Rapids Mi. And I am looking to start my own practice. In the past, I have never charged for performing Reiki it was always in goodwill. But since I am having so mutch trouble in this town finding a job in Graphic Arts or Design, I thought it would be a good idea start my own practice. Although I don't know where to start. Any Ideas or suggesstions are welcome.

Word of Mouth is best. You need some exposure. Hunt around the GR area for metaphysical stores. You won't be operating under the most optimal conditions unless the store has a separate room specifically for readings etc. You'll have to clear the room prior to each session but what the hey. If you are unable to drag in a portable reiki table, and a private room isn't available, a comfortable chair can suffice and you can do chakra clearing etc. YOu could do a full sessuib but I know its not as comfortable as the sacred space way, all quiet and meditative. However it can be done.

If the store is willing you can work out some compensation whether it's commission, or the shop might allow you to keep all earnings for the business you bring in. I know of some who charged a nominal fee for a twenty and forty five minute treatments. Or even a dollar per minute.

Also check and see if there is any psychic fairs in the area. I see a lot of energy workers at psychic fairs. They operated under the same noisy conditions as a store but you are bringing in some money and exposing yourself (in a manner of speaking). Word of Mouth brings more to me than any sort of advertising. Any sort of metaphysical gathering is an opportunity to show your spiritual wares whether you are paid or not. It's like giving a sample, letting the client make up their mind, and if they are pleased will contact you for a longer session under better conditions. I offer a lot of free for the extra business it brings in. One free session is often worth ten referrals.

Also check doctors in the area who pratice alternative medicine as well. They let Reiki practioners work on commision or referal basis.

Do you have any other talents? I brought in a lot of Reiki work via conducting psychic readings.

I began by renting a four foot space to display tapes I had for sale. As people got to know me, I gave readings. I was able to rent a space for private readings. Reiki came into this and I expanded to a larger space. I had repeat clients who came monthly to a group including Xaris. I was living in this space also, having placed my belongings in storage. Eventually, I rented an apartment and moved my office into the second bedroom. clients following me. Reiki became the biggest draw, as more and more local people got involved. This was only a two year period. I ran a small ad in the paper, first about psychic readings, then reiki shares. I made a flyer about reiki that places like beauty salons would allow me to leave. All these brought in as many people as I could handle.

I have learned that this area has shifted. People eager to expand themselves no longer are here. It is logging country and various mills on the river front. I only know one man interested in personal growth. Times have changed.

I haven't even found a house for my family yet in the Grand Rapids area. when that happens I will be devoting time to attend Psychic Fairs and other open minded community events. I have plans of conduction Palm readings at one of the local store fronts. I have talked to the owner already. I can read energy levels in a person and gauge where their chackras are blocked as well as use Reiki. My main practice is to use the third energy (Ki) to help others with their problems weather it be pain ot nightmares. even spirit issues sometimes. I am still learning much about Ki though.

If anybody knows of a Reiki Master in the GR area that could give me further attunments for little or no money. I would be willing to barter computer or design services. or just be endebted to them.

I'm not in the Grand Rapids Area but I'm not unimaginably far from there either--Flint area. And yes I do pro bono work and classes frequently (more frequently than I should anyway ;) because I would like to see more healers out there. I barter as well.
