Hi,
Just had a question regarding Pets. Is it Ok to initiate pets to Reiki. And some believe attunements or treatments are the same as initiation. Maybe it's just intention.

I once received a great and beautiful healing from a cat who was a Reiki Master. And he was an impeccable, fearless and inspired Master, indeed. Attuned by his owner, a good friend.

If you are asking the question, it could be the pet has already asked you intuitively for the attunement. I do suggest you do whatever you can to ascertain permission. And do your best to honor the attunement process as you learned it, while modifying for obvious differences.

I read of Reiki cats sometime this past year, email me for the publication reference if you want.

Thank you for reminding me of that venerable cat; it is worth meditation this evening.

Blessings,
Aronaya

P.S. I see treatments as very different from attunements. The level of permission and intent is very different. With a treatment, the being is consenting to receiving Reiki that one time. With an attunement, the being is signing up for a lifetime of having a changed energy field. I do use "attunement" and "initiation" to mean the same thing, but treatment is different.

finality,

Hi,

Pretending for the moment I might not have peeked at Aronaya's post, I have to wonder (in your direction) how treatments and attunements can possibly not be different?

:)

Cheers (a dash of fresh grated nutmeg on top),

I have nothing to add about attuning pets, but I did want to mention that I have two loving dogs in my life, Snickers and Cody.

Cody is a gentle and old soul. He loves getting reiki treatments. Our reiki treatments have appeared to lower his anxiety about fireworks and thunderstorms.

Snickers on the other hand wants nothing to do with reiki. I've even thought that perhaps hands on was too much for him, so I tried to give him distance reiki, but when I asked if he'd like to receive it, it was a resounding "NO!".

Makes me chuckle. I often say they are yin/yang. One mellow, one tense. One black, one white. They are very delightful indeed.

judevine,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- and, not just dogs

- the two cats we used to have (they have probably reincarnated by now) were rather different about energy also

- one would come running from wherever she was in the house if there was any sort of energy work going on, not only Reiki - she loved to be right in the middle - if anyone was on the Reiki table she'd jump up on him\her and try to snuggle dowm right around Heart Centre - but she did not like being picked up or petted unless she sought it out

>:-}}

- the other, older cat, loved being held and petted but if one tried to offer a bit of Reiki she'd just up and leave - and she never sought us out if we were doing energy work

>:-})

- and, the older cat taught the younger one, when she was just a kitten and outside for the first time, how to get down from a step ladder - the little one had climbed up a step ladder I had outside (to work on the house) and then could not see how to get back down - after a bit of meowing the older cat came over, climbed up to the step just below the top then turned around and went back down - the kitten then simply imitated this techique and came right back down

No - it is not okay to attune pets - they don't have hands! Usui created a system that involves the hands. Sorry, but this is a "new" thing that doesn't sit well with me at all. That said, animals generally loooove to have hands-on reiki (usually - they make it abundantly clear if it's not for them), and 2nd level reiki can be great when you're trying to understand your animal friends better, but cat reiki masters??? Definitely not traditional.
