Finding a reiki teacher...

Ok...I found reiki teachers in my area by attending a local reiki share (I asked people there, etc.), but I am thinking about going on a trip soon and was wondering about finding teachers in another city that I would be interested in learning from. ^_^ I live in a small city, so there aren't alot of places to learn reiki...since I am thinking about going somewhere, I wonder what would be a good way to start looking for a teacher? I am thinking about going to Chicago...anyone know any teachers? or places to look online (not neccessarily city specific)? Thank you

greycat,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- over the years I have heard any number of complaints that a Reiki teacher is not available for consultation once students are done with a class because the teacher is in another city

- if you have Reiki teachers where you live I am not sure why you want to take classes in another city

- and, if you don't mind my saying so, it almost sounds to me as if you are avoiding committing thru continually looking elsewhere for those so-called greener pastures

- anywho, good hunting

Um...the reason I wanted to find a teacher in another city is not b/c I don't want to learn reiki ^.^' I want to find a teacher I feel is "right" for me...like someone who I feel is especially spiritually...evolved, advanced (can't think of the word???) someone who is "enlightened" so to speak. I just like to find a teacher that I feel very comfortable with. I found only 2 teachers in my area and neither of them appealed to me that much...
I thought the teacher might not be available if it were in another city, but I still think it might be a good idea...

Greycat,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- as I always say, sometimes: "who am I to know or judge the 'spiritual development' of someone else?"

- a certain level of spiritual development is already present in order to study and then Teach Reiki

>:-}}

- and, a Teacher cannot give a student spirituality, afterall - only teach Reiki

>:-}}

- so whatever spiritual barometer you think you have I would offer that in many ways it is irrelevant

- a good Teacher does not have to seem like a soul mate, afterall

>:-}}

- good luck with your search.

I didn't mean to sound like I had specific criteria that I was "judging" someone by... or any of the other things you mentioned...I just want to find someone that I feel comfortable with. I'm not sure I explained that too well...

dear greycat....I can understand your desire to find someone that you're comfortable with. I've had two masters. I wanted very much to complete my attunements with my first master & good friend, but we disagreed on the completion. Having had extensive background in hands-on & healing therapies, I just didn't want to take several classes inbetween the second & the final attunement. But I understood her desire to stick to her format & her traditional training. I certainly didn't have the connection with my second master, but she met my needs and I think I met hers. I think you're doing the right thing by following your instincts.....paying attention to within....& what's right for you.

ponderings,

- a good deal of what we 'see' in others reflects projections from our own Unconscious, afterall

I wanted to say that I'm planning on taking a class next week. It's near me--since it's next week (and only offered every few months) and I'm really excited to start, I thought I would go ahead and take it ^.^' Someone recommended the teacher to me, and although I wanted to look around at other places I think this will be really good =)I'm excited!!!!!!!!!!!!...and kind of anxious ^.^'...

Dear greycat96,

Namaste,

I would humbly offer that you might be stressing on the 'judging' and expectation thing or how it might be percieved by others. If true it's ok to way soften on that.

You've heared before and will hear this agian in the future I'm sure;
The learned guru, the mentor, the Guide is inside you. In this incarnation you can learn a great many things from other people. No matter what, your spritual guidance system is between you and your Higher Self. It's inside.

Namaste,
Michael

- the trick, of course, is when one projects one's Unconscious elemments onto others in making such judgements is to project the guru elements of one's Golden Shadow

I think it's wonderful that you've found a teacher.
Addressing the situation and following from the others comments is something you had to do. I reckon If you hadn't done so you still might be looking.
Or until at least you'd worked it through, which I think you have.

be cool
