Pace maker

Hi everyone, namaste ....

A friend of mine, a Reiki master, has had a pacemaker fitted and is feeling fine. But she rang me to ask whether I thought it would still be ok to treat others.

My instinctive reaction was "why not?" but somebody else she had spoken to, had warned her not to, for no particular reason.

Does anyone have experience of this please or any input? She was a student of mine, so she was hoping I could give her a definitive answer - I explained that I couldn`t but that I would enquire and get back to her. I would hate to wrongly advise her, and if nobody knows, then I will have to tell her just that.

Many thanks,
love and light,
philanty

Philanty,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- very good to see you at The Cafe!!

>:-}}

- I trust all is well with you

- over the years I have heard a few people say they have heard not to do Reiki with someone who has a pacemaker or if one has a pacemaker oneself

- but, I have yet to hear any reports of someone with a pacemaker having a bad reaction to Reiki practices

- my opinion is that the rare and sometimes unsubstantiated reports that electrical devices do not work properly in the presence of Reiki practices have nothing to do with ULE during Reiki but with Personal Energy

- having said this, it is important for your former student to keep in mind that the need for a pacemaker already means she is at risk

- if she is mindful of her personal energy and keeps it in balance it is more than likely she will have no adverse reactions to doing Reiki (to be fearful of doing Reiki now might be a factor that could put Personal Energy out of balance but no one can say for certain whether this would be detrimental at any given time)

- but, given her already established risk factors I offer no guarantees, of course

- hope this is of some help

Hi Firekeeper, namaste,

Thank you so much for your reply, which I have passed on, as that from a trusted friend. It basically backed up what I thought, but I did want to touch base in the Cafe to see what was thought, thank you again.

All is extremely well with me, very busy with family things these days, but still very much healing with Reiki, but no longer teaching. However, former students are now teaching, so feel happy that at least I have played some part in sending the ripples out into the pond.

Trust all is well with you and yours? I do drop in on the Cafe from time to time when I can, but do not often post ... but very grateful for your prompt reply to my query.

Love and light

Dear Philanty,

Perhaps the precaution is from the fact that electromagnetic energy would probably affect a pacemaker. Or so I would assume.

The question then is, just what kind of energy is Reiki? Is it electromagnetic energy? Or something else? And if it is electroemagnetic energy, would it be strong enough to affect such a device?

Rock On!

I have also heard magnets are not to be around those who have pacemakers. Maybe Reiki is magnetic energy? I would like to know as well.

Ms. Roxanne,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- awareness of one's health and medical condition is always a good thing but fear based on what seems to amount to unfounded rumor is not healthy

- the issue seems to be a lack of certainty about the nature of ULE and its interaction with Reiki practices

- there is no conclusive evidence that I can find that ULE during Reiki practices is electromagnetic in nature - of course, one can also argue that there is no evidence it is not

bagl

- but, I think it is safe to say that we would have heard about cases of pacemaker irregularities (many of which will be minor and of little danger) had they occurred

- artificial pacemakers are simply impulse generators

- strong radiation from medical equipment and strong electromagnets in medical and other equipment may affect their operation but common home appliances, common cell phones, etc are not rated as problematic

- and no magnet any of us would commonly have in the house is even remotely powerful enough to affect a pacemaker - most can barely impart a weak magnetic charge to a paperclip when contact is made

- and, most artifical pacemakers have auto-turn-offs when they are not needed, ie, when the heart in question is bearting at the proper rate - if that rate drops then the pacemaker kicks in again

- ah the wonders of allopathic, scientific biomedical stuff

>:-}}

- now, if only practitioners were as reliable in turning off their personal energy when it is not 'needed' or wanted

Dear Firekeeper,
Thanks for your comments. I was sort of joking. I was involved in a Japanese company that sold magnets and we were told they were not to be used around those with pacemakers. Also my energy feels magnetic and the earth is a magnet so I hear ya.

- I would imagine that folks with pacemakers do take them seriously (and we, of course, need to honor their wishes in that regard) - but hopefully most of them (and us) can maintain some balance about these devices and not get too neurotic over them

- just as an aside to all this uncertainty - not all energy is electromagnetic

My friend had open heart surgery and for months before and then after the surgery I did Reiki sessions on her. She has a pace maker now also and has taken Reiki Level II training and is doing great. She has no fears and simply lets Reiki flow to her clients. All is wonderful
