client slumps over from energy surge

Hi Everyone,

This happened during a Reiki share/healing circle.

I got up and treated a woman who is a long time Reiki Master. She is also studying shamanism.

In the circle, we tend to Reiki the head, neck, shoulders and upper back because people are seated in the circle in a meditative or relaxed state.

I didn’t feel anything in particular. I don't usually since I was attuned to Reiki 3, six years ago.

I sat in a chair behind her while I was doing her back. Suddenly she just slumped over like she fainted. I had seen somebody do this before so I didn’t think she had fainted. She didn’t fall out of the chair. Nobody thought to ask her if she was all right. People who know her better than I were there and thought nothing of it. I wasn't sure what to do.

I just proceeded to do her lower back now that it was exposed to me. I just kept working. I thought that maybe she just needed to stretch her back. She returned to the upright position eventually but she was in a cold sweat. She whispered to me and asked for some water. Now I’m thinking she really did faint and idiot me didn’t get it. Neither did anyone else. So I gave her some water. She drank it. I was so afraid that she might be very sick even though at the beginning of the circle, she looked fine.

She whispered to me that she had some kind of energy burst from within like a release. She said she saw vivid green and yellow light. She could not believe the energy surge that was going through her. I instinctively pressed the middle of the arch of each foot for a few seconds.

I wondered if I channelled too much energy to her. I didn’t feel anything! I just show up. She seemed to be better. She wasn't sick. She asked me to just put my hands on her shoulders. I guess she didn't think I was hurting her. She could have said she had had enough. She was not a newbie to energy work. This was scary to me. But she wanted me to stay and do just her shoulders. I did.

After the circle, She gave me a hug. I asked, “What was I just a part of?” I’m thinking, “What the heck happened here and did Reiki do this?" The woman didn’t say she was harmed. She told me that she was going to a special ceremony later in the week and thought that this experience may be connected with the one she was anticipating soon. She gave me another hug as I was leaving. She seemed alright and not sick.

I’m still wondering what the heck happened and why was I chosen as the tool to do this? If we as clients pull in what we need, why would we pull in so much energy that we almost put our lights out?

Did we both channel this energy? We do receive as we give, do we not? If there was such an energy blast, why did it not effect me in the same way. I know we're all different and have different capacities as channels. But I'm also thinking of the physics of energy where if you touch someone who is being electrocuted, you'll probably be electrocuted too, yes? Or at least affected in some way.

Did I just have better "insulation" in my wiring? I tell you, I wouldn't have been too happy if it were me in the chair. I do think it has affected me. I feel very hyper like I need to ground and I'm having a hard time with it. Anyone who wants to send Reiki to me for that, may, thank you.

Has anyone experience this either as client or practitioner?
Can anyone recommend books to help me understand what happened?

Hi Blini, namaste ....

I have not experienced exactly what you did, but similar experiences.

Perhaps the thing to concentrate on in this case, is that the lady concerned is an experienced energy worker, and she clearly took responsibility for her own experience. She asked you for water, and for support via your hands on her shoulders, and this you gave her. It is true that it is not you who decides how much energy goes to the recipient. You offer the Reiki as a clear channel.

She felt that she had experienced a release of some kind, perhaps linked to her solar plexus/heart area, going by the colours she experienced.

I can understand how disconcerting this would have been for you. I have felt the same way when clients experienced unusual things during and after Reiki, but from postings on here, I realised it was all part of the process for healing, and indeed the patients I had worked on progressed very well during future sessions.

Perhaps your lady with her shamanic work, realised what was going on - perhaps Firekeeper can offer some light on this?

I will happily send you Reiki as you request ....

Love and light

blini,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- without having been able to question the woman myself (especially about any previous and similar episodes) it is, of course a little difficult to comment

- but since she seemed able to report what was going on with her I would say she had not fainted

- I might wonder if she had begun to enter a shamanic altered state of consciousness but it was an incomplete journey - sometimes coming back from a journey too abruptly or not completing a journey cycle can be accompanied by some energetic experience - though the couple of first hand reports I have heard did not describe the experience as especially pleasant or 'releasing'

- however, I would agree with Philanty that she may well have used the energy she was taking during the Reiki (recipients, for the most part, determine how much energy they take so it is not likely you gave her too much energy, so to speak) for some inner work for which she took full responsibility (as it must be to be)

>:-}}

- the surge she describes could well have been an unblocking of some sort which some describe as a 'realease'

- I recall a couple of folks making similar comments during myofascial release work - some overt emotional release was involved in the instances I am recalling upon which had to do with sexual abuse issues

- if she is a regular at the share, being on the lookout for similar stuff from her would be useful to the detective work

- hope this helps

greetings: this reaction sounds a lot like what we used to call, in the Charismatic Renewal, resting in the spirit. We used to pray with people. and sometimes when we just touched their forehead they would go limp and we would let them continue the journey themselves. When it was over, they would come back, and take up from there. To me, Reiki is quite a bit like praying with people and depending on the Holy Spirit rather than ourselves for any results and healing.

fushella,

/*\ Namsate :-}}

- well, I must disagree

- Reiki and prayer are quite different processes

- as for the 'resting in spirit'??

- "fainting" (or feinting to some) has always been one of those responses indicative of being very susceptible to the power of suggestion (and expectation)

>:-}}

- I have witnessed similar 'reactions' at non-christian rituals - mostly from folks I would describe as (or know to be) highly suggestible and easily influenced by the expectations of others, especially those in spiritual authority such as "priests"

- the personality dynamics are somewhat like those involved with folks who are easily hypnotized
