Reiki or something else?

Hi everyone :)

Thank-you so much for all the warm welcomes and to Finality-thank-you so much for your kind response!
I would just like to tell you about something that happened while I was doing reiki distance healing. Without going into particulars I will just say that about a month ago my 17 year old nephew swallowed anitfreeze. I was not what you would close to him as he lived in Alberta and I live in Ontario. However, when I got the call that he was in the hospital I thought I would try distance healing. I prepared myself and when I started there was no connection at all. I felt like there was a block of some kind. When I realized my nephew wasn't responding I heard him say a firm "NO". (I should say that I can put myself in the rooms of where people are-I'm very visual). That's when I noticed I wasn't alone. He was standing on the other side of the bed out of his body. It seemed to me he was in spirit. He seemed to be glowing. I felt such a feeling of love not of this world-it was to overwhelming-and I asked him not to go. He said "I have to". Then it was done. I will admit I was a little taken aback by the whole thing. A few hours later I received the call that he had died. I have never had this happen before. I have always been able to connect with the requesters and could even tell things that were going on the room where they were at times. I know it's not an out of body experience because I'm fully aware of my surroundings. What I would like to know is-is this a normal response when doing Reiki? Has anyone had similar experiences? Is it normal to see the rooms people are in? I have been doing Reiki for about 3 years and just a few weeks ago received my advanced level training.
I would appreciate any and all ideas you have.

many blessings to all,
Sika :)

Sika,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- my feelings and thoughts are with his parents and you and the rest of his family as he makes the journey thru the Bardo and meets his next incarnation - and the rest go on in the realms of the living

- were you able to 'see' elsewhere prior to starting Reiki (not that this matters a great deal at present but might be a useful historical element)??

- the lack of a Reiki connection can mean permission was not requested (and given) ahead of time - so I am not the least bit surprised you felt no connection

- anywho........

- the form you 'saw' next to him (assuming you were 'visiting' prior to the declaration he was dead) may have been that part of his astral existence that is left when the physical body ceases to function (this essence typicaly will vacate before the death of the body)

- as such it is also quite possible that you 'visited' just prior to his death (since you say you got the report that he had died some three hours later)

- visiting into the future ahead of someone's death happens - I have had several such experiences - most have been related to members of our clan - only one I can think of had to do with a non-clan individual

- is this commmon?? I would say no. But then it may also be something many folks simply do not talk about especially if it occurs during the 'waking state' as you suggest happens with you (such vision occurring during sleep or "meditation" seem to be treated somewhat differently)

as Stevie Nicks once intoned: " I keep my visions to myself"

>:-}}

- hope this helps

Welcome, Sika. I remember once during my hospice work. I entered the room of a lady, who was unable to respond. Gently placed my hand on her foot and asked if I might do Reiki with her. I, too, got a resonating "No!". So, I backed out of the room and left her. Later, I discovered that she was the mama of someone who worked with my husband and she passed the evening of the day that I touched her. We've learned from hospice work, that people must let go of everything here, before they can pass. I believe that she was preparing to leave and I would have only drawn her back....in ways I can't know. I believe that you have gifts, Sika, and you'll only learn from them. Thank you, Firekeeper, for teaching so much.

Firekeeper,
You sound so wise!!! You asked if I was able to see elsewhere before reiki and I have to say I don't know. I didn't have reason to try-does that make sense? But you have given me something to think about. I appreciate your response very much.

Blessings,
Sika

I don't see things or people but I can and do feel a connection with some of the people I send to. (friends and family, people I already some connection with)

I have sent to a dying friend and knew she had passed when I could not feel that connection. There wasn't any refusal just an inability to make a connection.

I have also worked with my adopted father when he was dying and the evening of his death did Reiki on him and he drew an amazing amount of energy through me.

I think that the energy can be used however the recipient choses to use it (provided we keep our bs out of the mix) and that includes death/dying. I think the refusal is just that, a refusal of the energy offered or maybe the intention with which it is offered, for reasons other than the person may be dying. In my experience Reiki does not draw one back from anything nor does it prevent death.

ahhhhhh, Rebecca, such sharings....I've read that we enhance our passing by our thoughts, feelings, desires, focus before our passing.....as Gandhi called Rami....as he was dying...
perhaps, your adopted father needed assistance...and drew that from you....such a blessing to give to another. I agree with you....that it helps to keep our egos out of it....but our hearts....our caring....our desire to aid...assist...as requested....that is yet another fine thing....and much needed when asked. We are always blessed in the asking...

- wise?? Well, certainly I have many questions.

>:-}}

- so, you said, "You asked if I was able to see elsewhere before reiki and I have to say I don't know."

- even if you were not certain, did you not even have suspicions? To not know coulld be interpretted as a statement that you did not.

- but again, if you have these insights now it really does not matter a great deal - except that your sense of the line of your development will be rather blurred

Firekeeper,

I hope this day finds you well and happy :)
Before reiki I didn't have any reason to try to "see elsewhere", in regards to that I guess I would have to say no. It's only been in the last 8 months or so that I've become really involved in distance healing. In doing so I realized this "ability" very quickly. (I did distance healing before those 8 months but very seldom). Honestly, this is all so new to me. I didn't know if others experienced the same thing while doing distance healing work. What I do know is I would love to develop this ability-just now sure how. Practice I guess.
Thank you for your response.

Blessings,
Sika

- yes, I am a firm adherent to the idea of mindful practice and more mindful practice

- perhaps you might also keep a detailed diary of those distance sessions where 'visits' occur - much the same as maintaining a dream diary - makes for good time-line and developmental history

- write down exactly what you saw and did and any emotional content occurring during the 'visit'

- in keeping such a diary I recommend that you do not alter or otherwise edit what you first enter into the diary - adding on later is OK as long as one notes that it is an 'after-thought'

- In my diaries of this type I write the spontaneous stuff on the left pages and reserve the right-hand pages for 'after-thoughts', interpretive work, etc

- good luck

I have had this experience on many occasions. All but once it has been with someone I am very connected with. Usually, it happens when I truely desire to be with a loved one I am missing. Only once while doing any healing work. When the 101st entered Bagdad, I was praying for my son. I found myself in that place...........and he saw me.

blessings to you

Hi Sika,

I had something similar to this happen to me recently. I have recently been doing distance Reiki for my uncle who was dying of lung cancer. I always felt a connection with him when I was doing this. On Thursday night of last week, I started Reiki and saw his spirit rising from his body and he had a big smile on his face. I opened my eyes, refocused and tried again. I saw the same thing and did not feel the connection like before. I looked at the clock and it was 11:38 p.m. Early the next morning I received the call that he had passed overnight.

I am very new to Reiki, but have had some amazing experiences already. I am hooked for life!

That's great! I'm hooked for life as well. Reiki leaves me in "awe" a great deal of the time. I love it. Thanks for sharing.

Sika,

I don't have anything helpful to say to you but I did
want to tell you that I am sorry for the loss of your
nephew. Even if you didn't know him well it must
have been a very emotional experience for you and
such a tragedy for your family. And he was SO young.
Life can be very painful and the hormonal teenage
years can add to that pain but there are also great
joys in life and so many experiences that he will
never know. But sadly it seems that he made his
choice. I hope that he is at peace now.
