Greetings and Namaste,
Just wanted opionions of appropriate attitudes of how a teacher ought to feel towards a student if there is a certain attitude that we ought to maintain and if the idea of keeping 2 steps ahead is one that is of integrity.

Otoharo!

Are you asking as a student or as the RM. If as the RM, I never thought about it before. Be natural. It would really show up if you were taking on something that does not feel natural to you.

Dear Finality,
As a teacher regarding a student who seems to challenge their teacher to be more than he/she thought they could be in order to keep up with student. Does that make sense?

Prosperity,

For me it would be the nature of the challenge.

Is it a challenge to be more and better than I am presently or is it a challenge to 'keep up'?

I don't keep up. Lots of people I've known over the years involved in Reiki have gone on to 'be' more than I, learn more, do more. That is them, and this is me. Why would I want to try to keep up with someone else? Doesn't make sense to me. Keeping up is living in their life I prefer living in my own.

prosperity,

Hi,

Respect one's students (even if some may not know how to respect their teacher). It seems to me that the art of respect is rapidly being lost especially in the West. So, perhaps some students may learn more than just hand placements.

:)

Cheers,

RC

OBviously it makes sense to you. Perhaps having been a school teacher for so many years, it never occurs to me. It is so special to find these new ones coming on who are so bright. I never considered how I would measure tup to them.

Good words, Rebecca. It reminds me of my mentor in craniosacral. He's one of the best teachers and therapists that I know. For a long time, I berated myself for not being as good as he. Finally, I realized that it was important for me to be me. That I have much to offer and to learn from others, too. That lifted a lot off of me....which I realize I had placed there in the first place. Thanks for letting me rattle on so....

Dear Rebecca,
Wow I like those words of keeping a step up is living in their life rather than your own. And yes to your question to both a challenge to do better as well as keep up. I remember feeling somewhat dissapointed after Reiki 1 was over as it was such a high, I didn't want to come down as it was such a great group and I remember thinking, Is that all there is? I just want to offer enough so that a student is left more satisfied than I have been.

Dear Rebecca,
& thanks for all responses. I like that you do not try to keep up with any body and stay out of others lives that way to live your own;. I know when I did my first degree, I felt a bit let down like "is that all there is?" and kind of ripped off. I want to be able to give and teach to those who would appreciate and not feel over charged.

Dear RC,
I seem to have been repeating myself yet I have to thank you for your perspective as I do appreciate your comments and it is interesting how you mentioned respect. I have had experiences where there were assumptions made about me as a student which were not true. I figure if the shoe fits I'll wear it otherwise it's disregarded. A student who comes bearing gifts and saying you're the one I've been looking for can be a bit disconcerting.
thank you,

Dear Prosperity,

As far as teachers and students go I would humbly offer that trying to be two steps ahead per se is kind of and endevour of illusion, of the ego. My take is that if one isn't learning from thier students ; one isn't teaching.

I agree be natural. It also makes it easier for the mentor-ee when thay realize that thier Mentor is human too.

Namaste,
Michael

- one view is that if a student sees a Teacher as other than human then this may likely be some sort of projection
