Hello everyone!
Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone. I live in Northern Michigan and have just signed up for my first Reiki class. I'm really looking forward to learning all I can and becoming a healer, something I've always felt drawn to. My grandmother is, as I called it when I was a child as I didn't know what else to call her gift, an "energy healer". She is Native American and taught me many things about our culture. We used to sit together and weave and do bead work. I owe her many thanks for the creativity she inspired in me for my current day artistry.
I'm truly looking forward to learning more about Reiki and helping others. My dream has always been to work with animals. I look foward to the day I can use my gift of Reiki to help heal their injured bodies and broken spirits--something I see all too often in the canine rescue work I do.
Looking foward to getting to know you all!
Many blessings,
Mandy

Hi Mandy,
Good to have you on this site. I like to hear that you are of Native American heritage. That is so cool that you had such a grandmother. Mine died before I was born. I have some Native American Blood. My mother was born on the reservation but I have been raised in tick-tock & have a non-Indian father. Looking forward to hearing your perspectives.
peace.

Thank you, every one, for the warm welcome! =)
Prosperity...
I wish I could say that I knew everything there was to know about my Native Culture, but unfortunately I don't. My mother is non-Native and always taught that the ways of Natives, mainly Shamanism, is not the correct way to believe or live in the spiritual sense. So I was always disuaded from ever knowing such things. As a child, I was always fascinated and drawn to the ideas of Native American spirituality, but that's as far as it ever went.
As an adult, and only just recently, I've begun to explore such topics as a result of wanting to live a more organic lifestyle...which is a whole 'nother story unto itself that I won't bore you with just yet. ;-)
In my searches, I stumbled across The International Center for Reiki Training website and started reading. I shook my head in disbelief...I finally had a name for something I've always wanted to learn about, ever since I was a child overhearing my grandmother discussing "energy healing" techniques with another person. It is Reiki, and low and behold, the Center is located in Michigan, giving me easy access to learn everything I, at one time, only dreamt about. The mere thought of it makes my hands tingle, as if the energy is resting just behind a doorway that is waiting to be opened.
I quickly signed up for a class. =)
I look forward to the life-changing adventure that lay ahead. ;-)
Blessings,
Mandy

Otoharo!
Glad to meet you. I spent a week in northern Michigan when I did lecture tours with Inner Peace Movement back in the 70's. A lovely background you have. I am a native Texan. I spent lots of time at my granmother's house. She taught me, or got me started at least, in crochet and knitting. She taught me how bees swarm, and what she did with them, All the nature things that my mother had to time for, being always nursing a baby or pregnant.

javaluva,
Welcome :). I also had elders in my family who were able to "heal". I know they didn''t know what to call it-they just excepted it. It wasn't until reiki found me that I knew what they were doing. It is so great to hear someone who cares so deeply for animals. I love animals as well and it breaks my heart when I hear of things that happen. I know the animals I've had the pleasure of treating loved reiki. Thank you for your voice and light.
Blessings,
sika:)

Hello Sika,
I've always been an animal lover. :) Being involved with rescue, I see the horrible side of people far too often in their treatment of animals. I'm truly looking forward to receiving my gift of Reiki and helping those who need help the most (both animal and people). Do you, by chance, know of any good animal Reiki books?
Thanks so much for your warm welcome. I think one of the main reasons I'm so drawn to Reiki is the positive energy I'm met with from everyone who knows and/or practices Reiki. It's such a blessing!

ahhhhhhh, prosperity, your "tick-tock" brought back such good memories of Stephen Wilde (did I spell that right???). His books are somewhere in my mom's attic! Mandy, been enjoying your words so much. Welcome to this beautiful site....I'm a newcomer, too, but loving every minute of it. The folks here teach me so much. I have not had a finity for critters until meeting my husband (he prefers critters to people), but I've had neat experiences while working with people with their pets joining in. One...the lady's cat jumped up unto to her chest..walked up to me (I was sitting bent slightly over her, hands on her occipital) and gently "knocked" her forehead on my third eye three times. I knew that she was telling me that she approved of what I was doing. Loved it! And often folks dogs will lie down as close as they can and I sense that they're adding their energy to all that's going on. So, I'm learning about critters, too. The critters that I have worked with...immediately let me know whether they wanted me to continue or not. You'll have an awesome time with all that you learn. Thanks for sharing a wee bit of yourself.

Javaluva,
You are very welcome. Unfortunately I don't know of any good reiki books for animals. If you should ever find one please let me know the title.
Blessings,

Hello Sika,
I haven't found many, but in all my searches, this one seems to crop up the most:
Animal Reiki: Using Energy to Heal the Animals in Your Life by Elizabeth Fulton and Kathleen Prasad
Here's another one:
Hands-On Healing for Pets: The Animal Lover's Essential Guide to Using Healing Energy by Margrit Coates
Both can be found in numerous places for sale when doing a web search.
I haven't purchased either yet so if you get one and want to post a review, I'd love to hear your feedback! ;-)
Many blessings,
Mandy
