A more respectful opening is due.
Hello everyone.
How are you all doing?
I was so excited about being ABLE to get back on, I lost it. It didn't help that it was late either.
I will be teaching my first Reiki level 1 class soon and am as nervous as a loose tweety bird with 10 hungry cats in the house.
I never expected all the doubts that have assailed me in the last couple of days. I didn't solicit the class, IT came to me. Maybe I'm not moving fast enough.
My problem now is getting ready and where to begin. Everytime I start to work on something, I have more doubts.
So, what is my problem?
I would appreciate any feedback.
Thank You
Birdy

Otoharo!
Dear Birdy! Just be yourself. That is the most important part. You know reiki, and you know yourself. Trust these two things and it will all fall into space. I was just like what you describe when I started. I am retired now, but I would still be feeling like that before a class.

Dear Birdy...I think every teacher feels this way at first...guess I'd be a little concerned if they didn't...shows how much they care....how much you wish to do the right thing...and finalty says it so well. Each time you teach...you will learn and you'll begin to relax and trust yourself and the Reiki energy. You are part of this magnificent matrix of teachers & students & Reiki bringing us all together....the Universe is so honored to have you.

Just keep it simple. narrow down what you would like to teach, and what you need to teach.
It's easy for the me to say not to worry, but if there are things that are worrying you, make a list and erm, try to fix them one at a time, step by step and knock them of your list.
Maybe imagine the best you can and the best poissable result.
It's normal and okay to feel what your feeling,
Best of luck!
Reiki on!

Dear Birdy,
My humble advice would be to endevour to be Mindful not to breathe so fast and quick when having such feelings. Slow down and breathe fully. Let the "what if's" go and let one foot calmly follow the other.
namaste,
Michael

Thank you all,
What I want for the students is to leave the class with love and reiki in their hands. That they may all be at the beginning of the great adventure of their life.
In other words, I want to be able to do successful attunements on the poor souls who are subjecting themselves to a novice of the first degree. Who will probably use cheat sheets (shame on me), but won't mislead anyone on purpose.
Which brings me to charging. It's a merry-go-round isn't it? Or spin the wheel and shoot a dart at what to charge. I would rather charge NOTHING. Even my husband says it wouldn't be fair not to charge, allowing the person to let the class be something of value.
I will be practicing the attunements on my husband. By the time I am done, he should light up like a Christmas tree. I won't be satisfied until it is as perfect as I can make it.
I keep reminding myself. Simplicity is good, and don't give husband a migraine.

Just relax , I think you should try to let your students understand what they want from Reiki.......using cheat sheet.......I think you can talk about the problem about cheat sheet......cause you know, when they were attuned to level one , they should be using the REIKI ENERGY and not REIKI SYMBOL....try to tell them what is the use of symbols......don't worry, I can say I saw all the symbols before I attuned(but now i found it "stupit")
Let me share this with you , the first time I attune someone , I think the way you think , I wanted to be perfect, no mistake......so on.....but in the end, lots of mistake.....
But after attuning the third time , I found that perfect is not something that you can wish for......
Just forget about PERFECT and just attune, and you will success......
Before I attune someone , I will chat with them , and see if he got any question about reiki, and use reiki on their hands......
And before attunement, I will tell them , if i will touch their body , and what they should do .....
And I find that , touching their should being ending the attunement is very good, or you might scare them......cause they are in a "grounding state"......
Don't let perfect block your wisdom.....bless you...

Thank you all for your encouragements.
I'm afraid my perfection concept of an attunement at the moment is just getting through it and it sticking. Is that the right word regarding a successful attunement. I am hoping not to get too flustered at any one point. But, I do realize it won't be perfect because I'm not perfect. I'm flexible. Almost perfect will do for me.
I have my notes on things to share with the students so they won't jump out of their seats when I touch them. I remember this part, because I remember hoping I wouldn't jam my fingers up my Teachers nose when I raised them over my head. Sheesh, talk about memories to share.
The mad dash to the one and only bathroom in the building was interesting. When the bushes out back looked really really inviting to everyone. It wasn't that we didn't get breaks, we were just so enthused we spent every minute we could talking and reading and asking questions. I suppose the Teacher must have wanted to use the bathroom as badly as we needed to.
I look back now and we had some funny things happen in our class. We were all too serious to really appreciate them at the time.
Sorry my mouth ran on.

Have you given your attunement day yet, birdy? How did it go in the end?
I think every reiki teacher is a bit nervous the first time, so don't worry! You just need to be yourself - and use a cheat sheet if you want, why not?? I usually go through the manual that I've prepared for them beforehand, and have it with me to refer to if necessary.
It's a wonderful experience, both for you & for them, so just enjoy the moment. And I see no reason at all why you shouldn't charge - it's simply an exchange of energies, after all. You are putting in hours of your time to teach them - not to mention the hours you've put into preparing the manual! Keep us updated! :-)

Hi all,
The day has not been set, for which I am glad. My schedule is pretty tight for awhile. I am sure it will come about before the end of the year. I will keep you all posted. I am getting my papers together and listening to music. You will probably be ready to drop me into a sink hole and toss in the the sand after me.
The next couple of months people seem to be vacationing, even me. I will going to Italy with my husband who is giving a talk at a conference. Seeing as I have never flown anywhere this is a really huge thing for me. I'm ready though, I really do need a vacation. I plan on wandering the beaches along the Adriatic. NO SHOES! The days I will be by myself and the evenings I'm sure we will find gobs to do. Wish me a good time.
