Why?

Why do you think only certain people discover or pick up on Reiki? Do you ever wonder, "Why me?" Theories and opinions all welcome.

I know the number of Reiki practitioners has grown exponentially over the last few years, but it's still only a small percentage overall. What draws people to Reiki? or visa versa.

It is such a wonderful and good thing, why aren't more invited, is the best way I can put it?

I worked with a lady who went to level III and stopped. I never knew until right before she retired that she was attuned...to any level. Quiet as a mouse about it.

Thanks!

Birdy

Hi Birdy,

I'm not sure, but maybe one reason could be that a lot of people just aren't open minded enough to consider Reiki and other alternative healing practices because they cannot physically 'see it' or 'prove it' if you know what I mean. There are a lot of sceptics out there(who of course are completely entitled to their opinion, its a free world) :) However, it does make some of us reluctant to disclose the fact that we are involved with Reiki. Personally I don't always want to get into a discussion where I feel someone is mocking my belief in Reiki and that I am having to defend Reiki and justify it; so most of the time now I don't even let on that I do Reiki unless I know that people are either spiritually aware or at least open minded. I wish that I had more self confidence and a thicker skin! :)

I honestly think that most people come to Reiki because they are somehow meant to. There are of course a few who are 'attunement junkies' and will be just gathering every healing modality that they can without actually ever using them :) But in general a teacher appears at the right time in a person's life. For me personally becoming Reiki was almost like an awakening, I can't really explain it any better than that.

Gentle Blessings
Helen

Good question, birdy.....the answers are probably as diverse as the folk. I think back to my pathway and it seemed that attempting to learn, one teacher or belief system led to another. And I agree with Rainbow. Seems as if fear prevents others from questioning or seeking. My hubby being too intelligent for his own good...feels that we all "make" up whatever suits our needs....he, too, desires proof. Good question to ponder....

Otoharo!

In my experience, it was my guides who guided me here and then one of the HEB's who stated very clearly when I wrote out my plan to begin my spiritual work in Seatle or Spokan. She said, "You can do all of that here!" So I stayed, and that was 15 years ago. I discovered Reiki for the first time a year after I came, took the first class and added reiki to my offerings.

When I was ten, the visitation in medjegourie happened.
I remember hearing of the youngest being my own age.
I remember feeling how wonderful it would be to hold out my hands and give healing to someone, I imagined the virgin mary in front of me, and then felt that I was unworthy of such personal attention, and let my hands drop. I was a sad little kid.

At 18/19 I came across this book by raymond e. feist. At the insistence of my younger sisters I bought the book, didn't think much of it at the time, but then I started to read.
I began to collect the rest in the series, and in one of the books there was this little fella who gave and taught reiki to would be warriors for thier own healing.
I harkened back to that earlier time, and again I thought the same, but since this was fantasy, I thought reiki was also.

At 30 or therabouts, I saw in the local paper the classifieds section, a lady offering to teach reiki.
It was like a light bulb exploding in my mind, I literally jumped at the chance. Up to then I'd forgotten about the above, and in wary excitement I gave her a call.

I think I've been in preperation for reiki all my life.

Where do I go from here?

Watch for the next flagstone to step on and hope like heck it isn't a cow pie. One little step at a time.

I don't think it's ego to wonder why I took a Reiki class and not any of my neighbors. If there wasn't some curiosity, do you think any of us would have made the effort to collect here on this site or continue learning? If we were totally egoless would we even need anyone else?

Hmmm... I must have a huge flaw.

What a powerful pathway, Jaguar. I think like Birdy..you've both been guided all along and you weren't afraid to continue. Don't mind Firekeeper, sometimes he has ego fixation on the mind (boy, am I gonna be in deep doo doo)! Thanks for sharing Jaquar.

Myself I think different people are lead in different healing systems a type of path. Some holistic,Some herbal, natural, accupunture, etc. I believe there are more of us than we all seem to think. Maybe not just reiki but other areas of natural type healing. To me this is all good! To each their own. The bad thing is people promising cures which no one should promise. Then the charge for the promise. Leaves a bad feeling for people not cured then they tell someone and before you know it you have a reputation not only as a individual, but as a practice. Bad mouth reiki or herbal cures for a example it leaves a bad name for us all. Myself i just became grounded with reiki. I have been interested in natural type cures for ever. Dabbling in a bit of everything. Expert in none! But I love it all!
