I have a question about issuing certificates...
The RM I studied with is well recognized in the area, and has brought me through II. It's proven difficult to get her to issue certificates. I've asked, she has said she will "do them up", and so far there has always been some thing that comes up to interfere with it. To compound this she has not paid for my time working at a retreat she organized, and I've recently found that she has defaulted on paying for the facilities, and other practitioners.
So what may be my recourse on getting certificates elsewhere if necessary? I'd like to join the Canadian Reiki Association, and will need proof. I don't doubt her status as a RM, just her ethics right now.
Thanks for any and all input.

naturallywell,

- there seem to be several levels of issues here
- dilatoriness in issueing certificates and perhaps breach of contract in paying you whatever was agreed upon
- there may also be breach of contract if you paid he for the Reiki training with the promise of a certificate
- one or both matters may require legal counsel to resolve
- in the USA we have 'small claims court where small sum issues can be resolved before a judge and without a lawyer and for little of no fees
- as you are in Canada I do not know the details of your system
- remember, not all 'unethical' behavior is illegal
- defaulting on contractual payments or other obligations is illegal most everywhere
- hope this helps

Dear Naturallywell,
I have never heard of a RM paying practitioners to attend and do Reiki work at a retreat. It's usually the other way around. Also most retreats or facilities I have used I have contributed so the RM does not have to pay the entire fee. It sounds like you are feeling a bit ripped off. My last RM had me get my own Reiki certificate which she then just signed. You could always do that.

Dear naturallywell,
Jumping in where other good advice left off; I would humbly suggest that the Reiki III or Reiki RM cert. is, really, at the end of the meditation, is only visual resume candy.
But to your situation; perhaps you could find a kind certifying RM who you might plead your case to. Perhaps she or he might fast track you so you can get your cert at a kindly $rate.
Namaste,
michael

- if a Reiki student assists in a significant way with a Reiki training class then the Master may offer some compensation - years ago I assisted,in a significant way, with a Reiki 2 class one of my Teachers was giving and before she left town she handed me a check for 10% of the fees she collected for the class of about 20 students (I had not asked for or expeccted any remuneration)

Just to clarify...
I practice more tha Reiki, and the RM was organizer of the retreat. The retreat entailed far more than reiki for the guests. I was not there to facilitate reiki, but another modality. Guests paid a large amount to attend, plus room costs. We were to be paid, along with having our room costs covered. Rooms were covered, but we we not paid.
I guess now... Does anyone want to suggest a good way to approach another RM to "fast track" as another poster put it?
I don't like the idea of having to go to small claims court. Karma will take care of balancing the issue. I just want to move on, and grow my practice.

Darren,

- if you let the issue pass uncontested then Karma will accrue to your actions just as it would if you pursued the issue of being stiffed (though the Karma might well be quite different in the two cases)

- so, good luck.

I went to my RM's house and went to the computer with her and told her the reasons i need the certificate, so that i may start my own practice. I was persistant. May be you should go again to this person and not leave till you have it in your hand. As far as her ethics, she sounds very rapped up in herself, or has alot going on. In which case if you go there and not leave with out it (cert.) Then she cant get distracted. And being your RM, she should be open to you coming to visit or to answer any questions you may have. Hope that helps.

...There also may, I say MAY, be some victim patterns to let go of so this won't happen again,

Here's an update...
A mentor whom I'm workig with put me in contact with my RM's RM. We talked at length about the situation, and she has been aware for some time about the RM's ethics. She and I are going to meet, and with some review etc. she is going to issue my certificates. I'm also push forward and work towards my master. The difference I get in feelings from her are huge, and I thank everyone here for being a sounding board.
Namaste
