My practical brain would view it more like Reiki is drawn to a person who is willing and ready to use it consciously or not. But of course questions like these have no easy answers, so we'll just each do our best to wrap our brains around it.

Otoharo!
I would like to add this much. We were asked to close our eyes while the attunement process occured. I was asked to do that years later when taking Reiki III and auditing classes of many others. during the attunement process I was asked to close my eyes. So it was not until the last sessions of my Reiki III classes that I got to see it all. None of this bothered me in the least. I will continue this practice if I should again practice.
Rather than reiki being the one that finds us, I think it is our own selves that seeks reiki and gets us connected. The part of ourseves that we do not know right now but trust never-the-less.
