Reiki and a frightened dog...

I had the most wonderful thing happen last night that I just have to share with you all!

In the middle of the night, my German Shorthaired Pointer, Katie, jumped up on my bed shaking like a leaf. It had been raining and she's afraid of thunder. However inaudible it is to us, it sends her into fits of shaking and nervous panting. Normally I would shoe her off the bed and close the door as she keeps us awake with her anxiety. In all my experiences with dogs, I've read over and over, don't show affection to unwanted behavior or it reinforces the behavior. I never wanted to let her know her anxiety was OK by showering her with affection during such times. Last night, with being newly attuned to Reiki, I thought otherwise.

She laid down next to me quaking as hard as her little body could quake, non-stop. I thought, she needs Reiki. So I put a hand on top of her head and one on the back of her neck (which was the most convenient position for me with how I was lying) and sent her Reiki, my subconscious intention being to calm her down emotionally so she felt safe enough to relax and go to sleep. I thought of the emotional healing symbol as I did this.

After a few seconds, I could feel a very warm, prickling wave pulsing through my hands signifying that Reiki had begun to flow. It was the most powerful I have ever felt! It was like Reiki knew Katie needed it and it was giving its all. Warm waves washed over my hands and arms as I sent Katie Reiki to the point to where my hands felt as though they were one with Katie's body.

Immediately, her quaking reduced drastically. She laid her head down and within seconds her quaking stopped completely. I could feel all the tension in her body release and her breathing became easy and deep. I held my hands in place for as long as she wanted. After a couple of minutes, she quickly picked up her head as if an annoying fly had landed on her. I took that as my sign to stop.

My hands felt so good that I laid them on my chest to give myself more Reiki. Because Katie was lying against me, she too was receiving it and kept popping her head up as if to tell me to stop, she'd had enough. So I stopped and we both slept like babies for the rest of the night. =)

Many blessings!

Mandy

Dear Mandy,

I read your post, thank you. You did beyond at least the level best with animal intuitive-ism given the situation it seems.

The only thing I would humbly add is perhaps you did too well providing an energetic haven. With great results. When it comes up again I would suggest doing the same type thing but allowing her sense/experience of bravery to extend out further.

On a side note, it has been my experience that Reiki with animals is very strong feeling. Where as human to human Reiki packs a more subtle punch so to say.

\Namaste,
Michael

javaluva,

Hi.

You knew she could use some Reiki and obviously managed to direct some her way. Compassion is immensely powerful. And, it seems she 'knew' how to make the most of the energy.

:)

Cheers,

RC

I don't like dogs much, but Aww, your story was sweet.

My reiki experience with animals was in this case with a horse. Now the horse was lame for some reason and was standing in a field. I decided to send some reiki with the intent that if the animal needed it, let it be so.

So there I was feet away from the horse, when suddenly it started to shake its head in a kinda sleepy way and just laid down in a drowse with a snort. Horse is fine by the way, lame went bye byes.

I gave reiki to kittens a bit wild, since have calmed down and always underfoot!

Happy times.
