Pain during session

Hello:

I am a reiki master who has a practice. However, I have recently been treating a client who is suffering from colon cancer. I see him about 3 times per week. What is odd is that during his session he experiences severe pain in his stomach (3rd chakra). It tends to move around - one time it will be on the side, the next in the middle of his stomach, the next session in his back. However it is always located in the 3rd chakra. This is quite alarming as I have never had a client experience the onset of pain in a session!

I know he is "moving" some big issues and have connected to the pain and believe it is very old anger issues.

Any insights would be appreciated.

deborah,

- an olde teaching is that cancer is a matter of the Heart

- anger is also often a Heart symptom

- I would also say that the 3rd chakra is not so far from the colon

- also, Tanden is close to the area of the colon

- yes, there are always issues for those dealing with cancer

- sometimes 'extraction' work can be useful with pain issues

Hello Firekeeper and thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. I have attempted an extraction, but to no avail. The concern is the pain starts when I begin to work on him, otherwise it isn't there most times. It intensifies just after our session begins and disipates by the end of the session. I've never experienced this before.

I suspect I may be moving some "core" issues of his, triggering his anger that he is wanting to be rid of. I just am reluctant as I don't want to cause him more pain.

Be well,
Deborah

Otoharo!

We can not control reiki. We have to allow it to do its thing. It is not the practitioner who makes that decision. On some level he knows what he is about. This is my opinion.

Thank you for that insight. I am not attempting to control the energy, I am only seeking to understand its nature in this particular case. I am sure you are correct and that he does know what is being held within him, at some level.

Deborah

- an important issue with any energy work and cancer, especially, is what the client is expecting from the (in this case) Reiki? Pain relief? spiritual 'relief'? Cure?

- also, have you discussed his pain reactions with him and how he interprets them in relation to the Reiki sessions??

- does the Reiki provide releif after he leaves? That is, are pain episodes shorter or less intense the rest of the times he is not in a Reiki session?

- if experiencing (releasing??) pain during Reiki helps heim feel better the rest of the time and he is willing to put up with the occasional discomfort of the Reiki sessions then that is his choice - remember, it is highly unlikely that you are the cause of his pain

Hi Deborah, namaste ... :>}

I was interested to read your post, and the replies, which I agree with.

Your patient has made his choice in asking for the Reiki. I do feel that sometimes Reiki brings things to the surface that are then dealt with and removed. Several people I have given Reiki to, have had pain and/or emotional distress occur during the session, which has then dissipated during the Reiki. Working with these particular patients regularly has brought about a gradual improvement in the underlying conditions - one was physical, the other emotional.

As long as you are comfortable in still giving the Reiki in these circumstances, and your patient is still asking for the Reiki - then my advice, for what it is worth is - go for it.

Love and light,
Philanty

Otoharo!

Deborah, I do not really know what I mean to say. I am just remembering all those years of experiencing the dregs of myself that reiki seemed to yell in my face with! It has taken me so many years. I have had superb helpers who never gave up either.

Firekeeper:

Thank you for posing these questions. I took some time before my session with this client today and posed these to him (although we had already discussed his expectations). He answered them thoroughly andthe discussion refocused us on health, not the pain. I appreciate your help and assurances.

The pain did occur in the session today, however, I treated it differently and it worked out wonderfully.

Really appreciate the wisdom.

Deborah

Philanty & Othoro:

Again, more wise words. :-) This man experienced tremendous relaxation and peace today. This work is so amazing. I am blessed to be able to do it. Thank you both for your reassurances.

Deborah

I had a similar experience on myself. I was in deep meditation and doing reiki on myself. I felt a tingling moving around my belly button. It was making a circle around my belly button. Then i started feeling a pulling a tugging tingling. Then came some uncomfortable tingling pain like something being pulled out. I could feel it leaving tingling, pulling. It lasted maybe 4-5 minutes. Then it was gone. I have had similar feelings in my feet, Tingling so strong it became uncomfortable. But it passes.
My R.M. teacher laughed and said I just had something that needed to come out it was most likely deep seated in my body. I feel fine afterwards, usually better than before.
