specific questions re treating cancer

Hi all,

Namaste :)

I have a couple of questions to ask regarding using hands on Reiki to treat cancer; I am hoping that others will be able to share the benefit of their experience/thoughts.

The first question is should you work directly on a tumour with Reiki? I have heard conflicting things including that cancer 'loves' energy. I have been working with caution and mindfulness over the area, but the recipient reports that the tumour feels as if it has grown. I am very careful to keep any personal energy or attachment to the outcome out of it, but am now wondering whether the area of the tumour should actually be avoided?

Secondly I have begun to notice a 'bad smell' when I work in the area of the tumour? I have treated this person on several occasions before without the smell being present but the last twice it has happened. Has anyone come across this before with cancer?

And last but not least, there seems to be a lot of Reiki being pulled into the kidneys. I remember a long time ago here that Bruce mentioned the kidneys being significant in energy terms; particularly qi gong.

If anyone has any information to share I would greatly appreciate it ?

With gratitude and blessings
Helen

Good questions, Helen. Wish I could help. I'll await what others...more knowledgable...have to say, too. Thank you for asking the hard questions, my friend.

Hi ponderings,

Thanks for your reply :)

I am feeling a bit out of my depth at the moment as this particular scenario is all new to me and I really don't want to do anything that might make things worse.

Helen,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- has this person been receiving radiation and\or chemo??

- I always recommend proper smudging and cleansing after hands-on reiki with cancer patients or other auto-immune disorders

- the kidneys are important in cleansing the system so it is not surprising they may pull a lot of energy - it might also be good to be sure there is no metastasis

- remeber too that each person may use the energy in their own way - give the energy and the person will do the best they can with it

- as for directly to the tumor?? Since I assume you cannot actually touch the tumor "directness" is not involved

- will reiki 'encourage' a tumor to grow?? I doubt anyone can answer that question impirically

- one view is that all cells utilize energy - that is why hands-on at Thymus and other immune system areas is important - allow the body to fight the cancer as best it may

- hope this helps

Helen,

Here’s my take on things. Some others have disagreed, but IMHO they do so on theoretical grounds rather than experiential ones.

Cancer is congested energy. When I’m scanning, the area of a malignant tumor hurts my hand – it feels like hundreds of needle-pricks. Pulling energy _out_ from the region of the tumor and then sending it out of the patient’s body seemed to help. An alternative is to send energy in to clear out congested energy from between the cells in the area. Either way, the idea is to reduce the congestion of energy in the affected area. I sometimes also tried to send energy into the healthy part of the affected organ to strengthen the healthy tissues there.

As for the smell you mentioned, there isn’t enough info. in the description to say anything definite. But when I worked on my father during his time with pancreatic cancer, I sometimes noticed a sickly-sweet sort of smell around him at the beginning of some visits. (Later on a pancreatic cancer message board, I was told the smell would have been caused by an accumulation of ketones.) After I worked on him, the smell disappeared, but it would sometimes reappear by the time I returned 2 or 3 months later.

Sending energy into the bone marrow and thymus gland to boost the immune system might also help.

Also, one of the most helpful results of energy work for Dad was alleviating side-effects of chemotherapy. E.g., cells of the digestive tract are fast-growing and so tend to be hit hard by chemo; sending yin energy (which is “water”-based and flows from the ground up) into Dad’s stomach got rid of his gas pains.

As for the kidneys – yes, they’re very important in TCM and qigong. They’re regarded as the storehouse for the body’s “original energy,” which is depleted if food, air, sleep, etc. don’t provide enough energy to maintain the body’s health. The kidneys (and adrenals) in TCM are thought to regulate the reproductive system and large parts of the endocrine system.

I hope this helps.

Bruce

- in the case of cancer, this does not alter the fact that a tumor has mass and occupies space

Okay, that's one view.

But my characterization of the energy of a cancerous tumor is consistent with results of pulling energy out of it. It's also consistent with the fact that infrared images show malignant tumors as running "hot." That doesn't necessarily mean the characterization is right, but it's at least suggestive. But if you have any other characterizations that suggest methods that get more effective results, then I'm open to them.

Cheers.

Otoharo!

Helen, Lazaris says that we get cncer when we desire to start life over. this triggers the cells to begin proligerating the way they did when a fetus. Another stimulant to ancer is self hate which is the cells eating themselves.

In view of this, the person with this condition must take a real look at their deepest desire.

A person attending the NOrthwest Reiki Gathering about ten years ago, was healing herslef of cancer. she lined up friends who have reiki in a schedule that resulted in continuous reiki for her. She was succesful in curing the cancer.

Bruce,

- I would never claim to be able to characterize how others experience energy - whether providing that energy to someone or 'extracting it' (as in shamanic and other practices)

- certainly there are practices to try and extract energy and they may be applied to cancerous masses

- but what exactly one extracts I doubt anyone can say for certain - it may feel like energy but exactly what aspect of the mass's energy it is or how vital it is to the mass I also doubt anyone can say for certain

- and, unless there is impirical evidence (MRI, CTscan, etc) that the tumor diminishes after energy work and in the absence of other modalities one still cannot assert anything definite about the effectiveness of the work

- let facts speak for themselves (the best they may given the human predilection for interpretation - and "misinterpretation) - bagl

Just curious here. Why would it have to be "in the absence of other modalities?" If there were an empirical difference between "chemo alone" and "chemo + energy work," why do you think that wouldn't be definite enough?

Bruce,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- if one were dealing with the same type of tumor, the same chemo in both conditions, and the same person doing the same sort of energy work (and more than one case would be needed to satisfy the reliability of the treatments, of course) then I agree that your design would work (as long as you also had a Reiki only group and a no-treatment control group)

- I am also assuming that the same post treatment diagnostics would be applied in all cases to assess tumor mass, etc.

Reiki All Around,

All Blessings,

Firekeeper

PS: we also know that the same type of tumor in different patients may not respond at all identically to what appear to be identical treatment regimens - the power of individual differences, so to speak, can be rather amazing at times

Firekeeper,

Namaste :)

Many thanks for your reply.

Radiation therapy was started two days ago, chemo will begin in approx 3 - 4 weeks time, depending on how strong she is. I have not treated her yet since she started the radiation therapy, so these experiences have been prior to any medical treatment.

I have been dry-bathing after each treatment. It is difficult to smudge in her presence as it makes her cough (cancer is also in the right lung), but I take regular sea salt baths. I will begin smudging when I return home too.

I will make sure to pay particular attention to the thymus too.

Thanks again for your help :)

Hi Bruce,

Namaste :)

Many thanks for your reply.

When I scan the area, sometimes it feels like a balloon beneath my hands (resistance), so congested energy makes sense to me. The last treatment that I did on her, my fingers were throbbing over the area with the tumour and the palm of my hand felt like it was drawing energy out. I have experienced pain in my fingers before, but not the sensation in my palm.

With regards to the smell, it isn't a sweet smell. It kind of smells of decay(I don't know quite how else to describe it!)

I will pay particular attention to the thymus. Is there any particular hand position to send energy into the bone marrow?

Thanks so much for your help, it is greatly appreciated :)

Many thanks for your reply.

I have heard that cancer can be the result of deep anger or emotional pain. That does make sense in this case.

There are a few practitioners sending her Reiki, there are two of us giving hands on Reiki. I hope that her body uses reiki to heal itself of cancer but I accept that this may not be her choice at a soul level.

Helen,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- remember, with cancer and auto-immune disorders in particular it is vital to be as mindful of your personal energy as possible and do not let personal enegy get into the Reiki work

I hope your efforts and the other person's as well will prove effective

Helen,

- I am taught that cancer is, karmically, a matter of the Heart (not the muscle\organ itself)

- as such, the fighting and\or healing\of (or succumbing to) cancer includes, hopefully, resolving Karma as well as healing the physical body

Hi, Helen,

Just place a hand on any bony area and use intent to lead energy into the middle of each of the bones in that region.

Rainbow,

Namaste...

I have given Reiki to several people with cancer. And results were as varying as the folks themselves.

I followed my intuition, as I always do while sending this wonderful energy, and just allow that to be.

On a personal note, it took me quite a while to get up the courage to work on someone with the illness.

I lost my Mom to cancer when I was 19 and she only 44 yrs. So I had to overcome my "personal energy" issue...fear.

I wonder if a lot of folks have fear of cancer whether it be for themselves or a loved one.

I had to find peace about it. And losing one's beloved mother well, that took a while.

And I can't say that I'm yet "over" it, but having worked a great deal with Reiki, I can "immerse" in the flow of the energy fairly quickly and just keep following what I should do until the energy needs to stop.

I do understand the 'smell'...it is foul to me. And one doesn't need to be an energy worker to experience that.

Clearing also had been something I find I need to take very seriously. Not only of myself, but of the room/space where the person is staying.

I wonder if some of that clearing might not be from all the people who are interacting with the recipient as well.

Does their fear "linger" in the energy there?

I just know that if for no other reason than for my own comfort, to clear that space is helpful. I typically do it distantly before I arrive, then again before I leave.

The "method" varies as to what I feel is appropriate.

I hope this somehow has helped you. And that you stay strong in your work with cancer patients.

Abundant blessings,
Mammabear

Mammabear,

Thank you so much for replying.

I can relate to the 'fear' especially after losing someone so precious to you.

Would you mind sharing one of your clearing methods? I dry bathe as Usui taught his students to do. I also use Tibetan cymbals to disperse any negative energy and fill the room with white light. Smudging is difficult because the smoke affects Pam's chest :/

I am so grateful for all the information shared here :)
