Hello Friends,
A couple of days ago, one of my colleagues had pain in his right shoulder from bursitis and from pushing the snow blower. I asked him if he wanted Reiki. He said yes. So I put one hand in front of the shoulder and one hand in back of the shoulder. I kept my hands about an inch away from the shoulder. Within a minute he remarked strongly that it was hot! I can not feel anything in my hands. I asked him if he wanted me to stop. He did not, so I continued but started brushing the energy down the arm toward the fingers. Then he said he could feel his fingers tingling.
This time I could feel the tingling in my head. But no heat. The initial heat did dissipate. He claimed the shoulder was a bit better in an hour or so. Scared the heck outta me.
We've had the "hands too hot" discussion before. I don't want to "cook someone's shoulder". How can Reiki be for the highest good if it's too hot? or too anything uncomfortable? Do I need to be more specific in my intention like "medium rare" please? I thought by letting Reiki go where the client wants and how the client wants, highest good, etc,the client gets what he needs.
It didn't seem like it this time. And if I'm going to cook anything, I wish I could Reiki cook this cold outta me. How come I can't do that?
It makes me wonder what my cat feels when I pick her up or when I work on people in Reiki circle which is done with no talking. I don't want to hurt anyone.
Advice?
Blini

Good Sunday Morn to you, Blini. Perhaps, it would help if you changed your thoughts of this heat, "cook someone" or "medium rare". How we perceive what's happening plays into it...ie; fear, doubt, etc.. Very often the intensity shows how much the energy is needed and you did the right thing by asking the client if you could continue. It helps to talk a client through what they are experiencing, but I think you intuitively did the right thing with your brushing away technique. I back off if ever someone finds what's happening unbearable, but by redirecting your thoughts and theirs, they might be able to work thru something that really needs to occur. Wonderful healing, Blini.

Otoharo!
I may have said this before. when we had theswe hot hands discussion in our group, it had become a sort of banter about whose hands are the hottest! Xaris foxed this right away. The heat is a body sensation, not reiki. When the body is familair with the energy the sensations ceace. I never felt my hands hot, but the place on me where I put my hands was cooking. So what! Can't really hurt anything. This kind of heat is an energy reaaction, it is not real.

That heat is a reaction to reiki is an interesting point. I think that is quite possible, if not probable, but I have to wonder if the heat/cold is the effect of and/or a characteristic of Reiki.
To my client, he didn't know if the intense heat was a reaction or not. He certainly wasn't expecting it and not being that familiar with Reiki, he wouldn't know if it would hurt him or not. To him it was real.

blini,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- just as people's eyes are often bigger than their stomachs and indigestion follows, so too people may 'pull' more Reiki than they know what to do with
- also, I suspect that not infrequently recipients may not really have a goood idea of what they are 'getting' when they say, sure Reiki sounds good
- nor do they have much of an idea of mindful use of the energy (all of which speaks very much to the idea of permission, permission, permission)
- and it seems, even permission is sometimes not enough
>:-}}
- I trust you gave him a bit of a de-briefing about Reiki

Years ago after my 2nd attunement I went home and gave Reiki to my now ex husband. After a few minutes he squealed pushed my hands away from his forehead and said "!%%^&^& you burnt my head!!! you need to learn to control this!!" I thought he was joking - but within minutes a bright red mark appeared on his forehead that looked like sunburn - it lasted about 24 hours and went away.
I asked my master about it and she said she had never heard anything like it. Nothing similar ever happened when I give treatments since - but never doubt the intensity of energy a person can draw. I thought maybe that I had not had time to adjust to the attunement. Plus my ex had been through a bad accident as a teenager that left him permanently disabled - so maybe he needed more than many people and because we were very close he was wide open to the maximum flow I could channel?
I did give him reiki many times after that but was always very mindful to put a big distance between my hands and the first hand placement and kept checking "okay?" "too warm?".. etc
The funny thing was he was a skeptical engineer thinking it was "the power of suggestion" until the experience - after that he didn't doubt there was something real going on...

I believe all of the sensations that go along with the Reiki experiences are VERY real.
Some of the sensations I have personally felt are hot, cold and tingling. Always remember to "White Light" before a Reiki treatment for your own protection and for your clients. When I channel the energy towards someones healing experience I too notice that a client may feel a very hot sensation. I belive that this is them literally sucking the energy and the experience to feel all of the work that it is doing.
Some people new to Reiki have never been allowed to feel and when we allow all the physical and mental healing the sensation can be overpowering.
I use a "Rub and Toss" technique as the sensation gets to be alot in the dominant hand. This I use in Hands-on or off. I call it my 3 R's, "Rechannel, Recharge, and Redirect" then the Universal Energy I am trying to send or give goes to where it is needed most.
Many Blessings

Sky,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- it is also quite possible more than just a bit of personal energy went into the "treatment" you mention

Namaste Firekeeper
Interesting you have a point - though I always set my intention to be a perfect pure channel for Reiki only - I could transfer energy very easily and assist people with pain, headaches, sickness etc before I began my Reiki journey.
The reason I sought out Reiki was because I had no idea how I did what I could seem to do for people and would be left feeling totally wiped out with minor aches and pains. I didn't know anything about grounding prior to Reiki. So I looked into hands on healing on the net and found Reiki which sounded and was in fact the perfect solution for me.
Your post made me think how many people who have experienced Reiki at Reiki shares - told me it feels *different" when I give a treatment to treatments from other people. So much so that when I took my masters attunement some people asked me to reattune them ...including my first master who attuned me to levels 1 and 2. Which makes me wonder if somehow I cant totally set aside the energy I was channeling prior to Reiki.
I chose not to reattune anyone - just because I was not comfortable with the idea and being newly attuned to masters level felt nothing like a master.
Actually over 7 years later - I still don't - its all still a big wonderful mystery to me - but I do love the wonder and pondering of it all.
Though it never occurred to me until today - that I might not be just channeling pure Reiki! Its a good job I have never charged anyone or it would be refunds all round ;)
Big smiles

Sky,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I think one of the reasons I frequerntly bring up this issue is that it is one that comes up for me every time I am doing distance K-K work
- the K-K is not Reiki, but it is extremely important for me to keep personal energy out of clearing work - perhaps even more so than Reiki work
- anywho, I am pretty certain other people don't want my crap any more than I want theirs

Sky,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- most kind (I think)!!
bagl
K-K = distance Ketsueki-kokan (nothing to do with Reiki)
- Karuna Ki?? Someone's idea of a spin-off.
- as for maneuer?? I grow herbs and have an aging bay laurel tree that has given many a fine leaf for the pot and manage a few flower boxes on the deck according to season
>:-}}
- besides, we all generate new 'crap' moment to moment though after so many years I do hope I am generating a good bit less
