Namaste All.

I have just been considering our destiny in this lifetime and wondering if there is anything that we can do to change it by exercising freewill.....or if we did, would this be predestined anyway ?

I guess what I am trying to say is, if we have freewill, is it already preordained what decisions we will take in order to achieve our karmic destiny here on earth or do we really have freewill?

Hope my ramblings haven't confused everyone :)))

My view is not all that complicated. Remember the 'kiss'...

I think that there is the parameter of things that we have/will make choices about, given that there is always more than one or two choices...(YES, MORE than TWO!!) WE have a lot of freewill.

All of these choices are part of your destiny. There are many good choices along the way without going out of the parameter. Some of them simply 'better' than others. It is all choice. (But who knows which are better?)

You have ordered these choices yourself. YES it is free choice. Even going OUTSIDE of the parameter is part of the choice. You have choices there as well. BUT who can tell what is outside? Only YOU. By the amount of happiness/satisfaction that you have with your life.

Fantastic maze, is it not?

one view is that our actions are our choice. the effects of our actions (the stuff that accummulates as our karma) is not our choice - we cannot choose what effects our actions will have.

since we must resolve our karma, it is our choice how we do this - sometimes we choose well - sometimes not so well.

Dear Helen,
What an amazing question ,may I try to unravel the mystery of Karma a bit?? A sanskrit aphorism says "Karmano Gahana Ghatih". This means karma runs indescribaly deep.Like a deep ravine or chasm, and cannot be measured or understood fully.
Consider this, it may take many intricately linked karmic actions to produce ONE result or ONE small karmic action may result in many karmic repercusions on various levels.

Karma is of many types:
1) Dirdha Karma----Fixed Karma ,destiny that is unchanging.
2)Dirdhs-adirdhs Karma: Fixed-unfixed Karma,This can be changed to an extent with right effort.
3) Adridha Karma: unfixed Karma, not determined and changable with present effort.

Karma is also classified as past,present and future....but that everyone knows about anyway.
QUESTION IS HOW TO USE REIKI FOR KARMIC CHANGES??
The main karmic "contents" would be in the ROOT Chakra!!!
Also in others but I feel mainly in the root......so we Reiki there...once a man sat on a rock for 12 years doing penance, after 12 years God appeared and asked " you have pleased me ,ask for a boon". The man said" God give me the karmic fruits of my actions". God suggested he change the request but as the man was adamant God said" OKay ,you sat on that rock for 12 years now let that rock sit on your head for 12 years".

Divine Power (Like Reiki) can "burn up" our stored negative Karmas ,as per their category( see above.. Dridha and Adridha Karmas)

A Teacher once suggested that Source does not rule karma - or direct it - manage the rules of karma, perhaps.

In one way or another, whether in the physical body or another vehicle of less dense matter between incarnations, we may resolve all "forms" of our karma.

I have been pondering the same thing recently (during the hour long 10 mile commute to and from work) I am not confused but I think any answers that we get will just confuse us. I have no firm conclusions to any of it.

It is hard to Not follow our own desitiny honey. Every choice we can ever make, already
exists. If it didn't, it couldn't be. So there is no way for surprises. We simply choose it
into Be-ing.

Yes, I think I understand, so in effect then once we have taken an action and caused an effect, we cannot change the outcome and resulting karma?

Or have I completely got the wrong end of the stick? :))))

yes, I feel you have the correct end of the bat. :-}} and are getting in the swing of things. :-}}

once the Effects are set in motion, we are out of the loop except that the accummulated karma will have to be resolved (depending of course on the actions in question}.

Compassionate Action, for example, is almost never a problem.

Dear Helen,
Quite true in my opinion ,but as I said Karma runs deep and is not possible to fathom all aspects of it. What is implied in texts on Karma ( to my understanding) is that we refrain from doing deeds that would reap bad fruits like violence,stealing etc.,and do deeds that would reap beneficial fruits...giving Reiki is a divine karmic "activity" and will surely build good karma,repay our Karmic debts ,and store a good Karmic balance for us to use. At this point may I introduce a different thought...why be so afraid of "reaping the fruits of bad Karma"? When we go through " bad" times ,we still have the Self within ,whose attributes like Peace and Love we tap into while doing Reiki....So even in such times the Love and Peace is AVAILABLE to us by Reiki practices.

Yes the Divine energy also very truly has the power to negate our negative Karmas......but which ones are to be "burned" and which the person needs to experience for their own growth and learning is NOT in our hands.

The slate will never be clean - just resolved.

I hope the New Age is not the Age of New Illusions of Shortcuts.

Can we ever be sure that the shortcuts are illusions?

-comes a time we must be certain for ourselves.

-the laws of Karma (and of course reincarnation), as I understand them at this point in my evolution to enlightenment (as limited as that may be), suggest that there are, for all practical purposes, no shortcuts.

-wishfull thinking not withstanding.

A few of the traditional Jataka stories suggest that sacrificing one's life for the welfare of one's "kind"
may be the fast track to Enlightenment via this supreme Compassionate Act.

But no guarrantees.
