How could any type of healing not be spirtual?

Wikipedia explains it well: Spirituality, in a narrow sense, concerns itself with matters of the spirit, a concept closely tied to religious belief and faith, a transcendent reality, and God. Spiritual matters are thus those matters regarding humankind's ultimate nature and purpose, not only as material biological organisms, but as beings with a unique relationship to that which is beyond both time and the material world.

I agree that there is a spritual element to most types of healing but I was referring directly to spiritual healing in the context of people who actually link with spirit and channel spirit through them to effect healing for another. I see/feel this as being very different from Reiki although I know of others who are also trained in both that don't :)

Helen, My opinion, Things are dropped and added to Reiki, Most likely right from the start of Reiki. People choose to use what they are comfortable and teach it this way, omiting things and adding things. But alot of people are trained in Reiki to use these extras and include them in Reiki right from their start in Reiki training. Most likely this is why some people starting adding example Reiki Ki, Celtic Reiki, Kundilini Reiki, to Reiki adding their own twist. You say its not reiki, but Reiki is usually the base for all these healing techniques and still there under the layers. Reiki is usually still used (at least what we are taught), depending on I would guess who is doing the teaching. What people trained believe to be Reiki. My thought is you still get the basic Reiki. Maybe it should be called Reiki Plus, who knows for sure. L.O.L
Who actually knows what the real original Reiki really was, Authors, teachers, students all with their own translations.

My feelings are I wasn't there, I didn't experience what came to Dr. Mikao Usui first hand. And if he was anything like me, He could of forgot somethings on the trip down the hill, or immediately afterwards. We are only human after all. It had to be overwelming to him as Reiki is to some of us years later.

Like I said before my cards say Karuna Ki Reiki,Usui Reiki, etc. I have been trained in both. It is out in the open and they have the choice weather to use me or not. No one has ever asked me yet just for one or the other specific Usui Reiki or Karuna Ki Reiki. If they did it would be easy enough to do (again as I know it to be). We can only do the best we can to try to help. With good intentions.

Just my thoughts! Not saying I am absolutely 100% right. Who is? Not trying to push my beliefs on anyone. But these are my thoughts. Everyone does have their own. Who is absolutely right? Who will ever know for sure.

My own experience of a 'Healing Attunement'. I'm not sure if there is such a thing, but I'm not going to quibble.
Years ago, I recieved level 3 which allowed me the ability to pass on an attunement to another. Ever since that weekend, I've not given one. Why? Probably because the situation never arose for me, or that I didn't go about in pushing for the thing to happen(which seemed wrong somehow; each and everything in its own time)
Now recently, I met through the boards a friend(now) who showed curiosity and willingness to share a reiki distance healing. Which went well, I have to say (and am appreciative of the experience)
So, we chatted some and discovered our mutual level of Reiki. So we conferred and decided to do a distance reiki attunement, for healings sake, instead of an ordinary distance healing.
It was a good experience, I find that things are surfacing that had been going on for years, but am now in the frame of mind to do something about. A cleansing and all the usual stuff from an attunement as well.
Since I've already been attuned to reiki, this feels like a refresher, or a re-affirming of my reiki path.
To my mind, my experience leads me to realise that I've had a reiki healing attunement.

It springs to mind that an attunement to reiki will put in place the ability for a healing to occur.

Helen, in Inner Peace Movement that predates reiki here, we learned that Feelers are natrual healers. There are Visionaries, Intuitives, and Prophetics according to Coll. I have correlated these by their promonate sense dominace as:
Visionaries = Earth = visual minded
Feelers = Water = natural healers.
Intuitives = Fire = clear hearing (can here spirit)
Prophetics = Air = know the future (inner knowing)

We each have all four but we have them in a priority order. For instance I am Prophetic, Visionary, Feeler, Intuitive, or air, earth, water, fire. So I experience life primarily through knowing and seeing. when a knowing comes in, it is like a cube, I can't get it. then a picture begins forming. and I begin to get the knowing. Feelings of it follow, and last of all I can focus on it. Focus is a trait of fire.

Each of us can find ourselves in this. A local IPMer is likely present in ar near anyone.

None of the above is reiki though when we experience reiki, whatever we are goes with it. Or rather how we go about using reiki is colored by our sense dominance.

I did not want to start a new topic yet, so I add my two cents worth on here. Besides the minamal time of snacks, and fire starting in the fireplace, I have spent the whole day, sitting at my keyboard and writing up the new music. I am amazed at how one melody can become different songs by changing the time signature! Facinating business.

Back to the original topic: I have had experience with a healing attunement. The symbols are put into the crown only for purpose of making the client more open to the energy. I was appalled at first when this was done to a child I know but after keeping a clairvoyant eye on this child (my nephew) I found that the symbols in his crown were only temporary. He did have a very high energy level for 2 days but that subsided as well and no harm was done. It was done with the intention for healing, not attunement.

As Reiki Masters and/or Practitioners we must be open to new ideas from every aspect of the healing arts. If something doesn't sit right with you then don't use it, but don't knock it :) By shutting our minds to another's way is to limit our own potential.

The healing attunement is not taught to a client, but they do participate, in that they are present. At the time I was shown this, very quickly at that, I remembering wondering why not just do an attunement.

I have not used it at all when giving someone a Reiki session. I am very reluctant to use anything but plain old Reiki and intention when I work on cancer patients. Although, I do use my family for guinea pigs sometimes. But, never the cancer patients.

My goodness this subject is explosive!

I do remind myself about the KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid---not calling anyone names, but it's my personal wake up and pay attention call.
