Reiki for High Blood Pressure

Is there anything in particular I should be careful with when doing reiki to someone with high blood pressure?
My mom was diagnosed with high blood pressure yesterday (it´s pretty new to all of us, since she always had low blood pressure). The doctor prescribed medication and some tests. It seems the medication is acting slowly, so she´s trying to relax, meditate and be calm.
I´ve been giving reiki to her medication and giving her distance reiki. For hands on reiki, is there anything you recommend?
Thank you

ladycyan,

There may be hand positions that are recommended but I have found that working anywhere on the body has beneficial effects on blood pressure.

Just as a small experiment I once placed my hand on my leg and let the energy flow on a short trip to a friend's house and had him take my blood pressure when I got there. Twenty minutes of that and my blood pressure was 105 over 60. Not to shabby. :-) (at the time it was normally around 125 over 65 or so)

Five minutes or so of energy anywhere on my body and I can temporarily lower my bp by several points.

Also, my husband has learned a technique called a heart lock which can significantly lower bp temporarily. It is a simple technique, you might be able to google it and get information. He can hold this for several minutes and uses it frequently.

These are temporary effects and aren't a replacement for medical care.

Hope this helps.

PS

I found this information on several different types of 'heart lock' at the pbs (public broadcasting service) website. They are all simplified descriptions of the techniques but give the basics.

Freeze-Frame - is the simplest of the HeartMath tools. It is a one-minute technique that allows a major shift in perception. More than positive thinking, it creates a definitive, heartfelt shift in how we view a situation, an individual or ourselves. When under stress:

1. Shift out of the head, and focus on the area around your heart. Keep your attention there for at least ten seconds. Continue to breathe normally.
2. Recall a positive time or feeling you had in your life, and attempt to re-experience it. Remember, try not simply to visualize it, but rather to feel it fully.
3. Ask a question from the heart: "What can I do in this situation to make it different?" or "What can I do to minimize stress?"
4. Listen to the response of your heart.

You may hear nothing, but perhaps feel calmer. You may receive verification of something you already know, or you may experience a complete perspective shift, seeing the crisis in a more balanced way. Although we may not have control over the event, we do have control over our perception of it.

Cut-Thru is a technique developed to help us better manage our emotions. It gives us the ability to "cut through" complex, long-standing emotions, and dynamically move from one place to another.

1. Be aware of how you feel about the issue. Focus in on your heart.
2. Assume objectivity. Act as though it were someone else's problem. What kind of advice would you give this person who's just been slighted by a co-worker? You'd probably say, "Hey, relax, it's no big deal."
3. Take the distorted feelings, the emotional energy that is out of balance, and bring it to the heart. Let it soak there, as if you were soaking in a warm bath. Practice letting the heart do the work for you.

Cut-Thru tends to require more mature contemplation than Freeze-Frame. But it is also more useful with deeper, and more complicated issues. Long-standing emotions have been stored in us through our life experience. Cut-Thru gives us the ability to transform instead of repress.

Heart Lock-In - Rather than fixing something, Heart Lock-In is about experiencing your heart at a deeper level.

1. Shift your attention away from your mind and focus on your heart.
2. Remember the feeling of love or care you have for someone whom it's easy for you to love. Focus on a feeling of appreciation for someone or something positive. Try to stay with that feeling for five to fifteen minutes.
3. Gently send that feeling of love or appreciation to yourself and others.

In fifteen minutes, a Heart Lock-In can provide physical, mental and spiritual regeneration.

I recommend sending energy into the kidneys, which help to regulate the blood pressure.

Otoharo!

When I had an office downtown, at the time that we would be in group reiki share, a woman came whose blood pressure was extremely high. we welcomed her to the table and simply continued reiki as ususal. this always brought her pressure down enough for her to function.

Doing all the standard hand positions covers the body and does the job.

Thank you Diosa, Bruce and Finality,
your information and care helps very much.
I have just came back from the doctor...whenever my mom gets her blood pressure checked at pharmacy, her values are very random, and usually higher than at the doctor who is a friend of the family. The doctor says she gets really scared of this, so he prefers we check her blood pressure at his office or at our house. It´s all very emotional.
So we´re still on the prescribed medication and working on reiki, and guided meditation so she can relax a bit, which will help with the medication too.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, it means a lot.

If she is stressed by the proceeder then it will certainly elevate her pressure and a good reading won't be possible. My husband always does a heart lock when he goes to the doc and has his taken because doctor's offices and waiting stress him. He figures his time is worth at least as much as the doctor's so the doctor should be considerate of it, that however isn't how it usually works. :-)

Inexpensive and accurate blood pressure cuffs can be purchased some places so that she could monitor it herself when she was comfortable. Just a thought.

I would think that balancing her chakras and doing a full reiki treatment would help regulate her circulation and blood pressure very well.

A word of caution is in order here. The mingmen point -- on the back directly opposite the navel, and midway in between the 2 kidneys -- regulates kidney yang energy, which (among other things) raises blood pressure. Proper energetic balance of mingmen can help, BUT over-energizing mingmen could over-stimulate kidney yang energy, which would raise the blood pressure -- which would be counterproductive in this instance.

Love the learning from you, Bruce. Now, the question....if, most folks do not know or are not aware of what you just spoke of.....their intent having nothing to do with that....do you feel it's still going to make a difference (I'm thinking in terms of a low or not positive difference here)? I only ask, because I believe that our belief system plays such a big part in what we do and don't do.....

ladycyan,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- it is not an uncommon finding that folks who are a bit stressed by visits to the physician can show blood pressure that is a bit elevated upon arrival - one way to deal with this is to have the BP taken a second time toward the end of the consultation when perhaps the persopn has relaxed a bit

- also, the condition of the blood vessels matters - as they narrow with age BP will go up as a direct result

- also, salt intake needs to be watched - salt will raise blood pressure faster than almost anything

- yes, low or no salt diets are one of the least favorite aspects for most folks dealing with high BP

- one has to read the labels on every thing one buys to see the sodium content - what a hassle - but it can easily save a stroke or worse

-as for Reiki? The kidney suggestion is a good one - I also might do a bit of Reiki to the base of the skull and the major arteries themselves

- suggest to your mother that she focus her attention to these areas and structures as she receives Reiki

All Blessings,

Hi, Ponderings,

I'm not sure of whether I understand what you're saying, but I'll venture an answer anyway. If I misunderstood, then let me know. Some practitioners seem to believe that more energy always = better. Such an approach taken to sending energy in through the recipient's mingmen point can be counterproductive if the recipient is experiencing high blood pressure.

Thank you everyone for your great tips,
the pressure with medication seems to be more stabilized right now. I´m giving my mom reiki daily, complete sessions with focus on the kidney for some extra minutes. Guided meditations to focus on relaxation are helping too.

We´ve been measuring her blood pressure at home and at the doctor who is a friend of the family, so she´s not that stressed out with checking it out random places like pharmacies.
She´s eating with no salt and having blood tests and some more complicated tests tomorrow and friday.
She´s way more relax and confident now, and that´s helping the medication work.

I´ll keep you posted and I´m thankful for your great advice,
LadyC
